Keep a couple of sets of fizzy drink bottles in the freezer so you always have some in the fridge. I keep 4 2 litre bottles in our chest freezer. Just in case of your type of situation. I forgot all about this-those bottles have been there so long! ;)
I reckon it'll tide you over.

Loving hearing of home grown produce, how will you need to store it to stop it going soft?

Bottle 1 in the freezer (rescued from the bin) I shall save my money on the mini fridge now!

For off-grid refridgeration try a Zeer Pot, heres a pic

If you look closely at the fridge thermometer its reading about 7C

My Great Aunt used to keep milk on the celler stairs, each step held the milk delivered on one day and you had to use the bottles above the empty step.

Worth while remembering that even a broken or unplugged fridge is still a big insulated box, thanks for mentioning it...... I'm sure that part of prepping is looking at things differently

30 day money back with argos.... errr treat it like your hiring it .... remember when you return it, it keeps freezing your beer as there is no thermostat ;)
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

I'm not certain that it'll last long enough to go soft! I didn't grow that much because all I had was a window box type thing at the time. Now I've got a small allotment, I'll plant more this winter. From what I've read, a rack in a well-ventilated, shady (but not in the dark) place is how you 'cure' garlic before you actually store it. But you can plait it too like me. I've tied the end with string and hung it up from one of the kitchen cupboard handles. :D

You can store cheese for far longer than the use by dates on it in supermarkets by waxing it yourself even if you don't make your own.

The wax is reusable a couple of times too if you remember to save it as you peel it off.

Once coated in wax, it will store either in the fridge or on a cool dark shelf somewhere for years if need be, but will be maturing the whole time so the longer you leave it, the stronger/sharper it will be.

Just need to remember to turn it from time to time.

Don't skimp on the wax, you need at least 3 coats to make sure it's properly sealed.

Just google cheesemaking & you'll find it's easy to get supplies, ideally melt in a dedicated double boiler (means you don't have to empty the unused wax out each time) and have a proper brush, but can be done if you have to with a stainless steel bowl over a saucepan of water & a pastry brush.
don't use a brush meant for painting - not food safe.

ps don't forget to label it.

Today I built another log store. I have Builder friends who drop off wood for the burners. Often there is plywood and plenty of 2x2. Chuck in a bit of roof felt-Bingo!
As wood heat is our primary source, I try to make it as user- friendly as poss. for the ladies of the house. So plenty split and under cover, well in advance.

alpha male managed to burn himself on Friday (friends of mine gave me a bottle of this to try) and I have to say the results using this product have been astonishing

Not cheap, but I had to add it to the FAK
