I smacked myself in the leg with my axe couple weeks back. By sheer luck it avoided doing any real damage, but it bloody hurt!

Then I went and bought myself a Chainsaw to up the stakes on wood chopping! Oh dear!

Bahco Laplander folding saw - Ebay £15-20
B&Q hand axe (circa 1.5lb is enough for most jobs) £15-20

Unless you're an expert these'll do you fine for most jobs. But soon enough you will need a means of sharpening them.

B&Q do a ceramic axe sharpener that's easy to use and costs les than £10.

WARNING:- One axe or saw is never enough...

Funny you should mention the laplander, I sent a bunch of them as Crimbo Pressies last year...Amazon has them for 12:98 with free super-saver delivery. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bahco-396-Lap-L ... 633&sr=8-1
