Leathermans

Post by maldini3 »

Apologies if this has been posted on here already..

I'm after a Leatherman or similar as a multi tool. Doesn't need to be anything particularly fancy with 50 different tools on it just something fairly basic that has most of the fundamentals covered. Does anyone have any experience or advice they wouldn't mind sharing please?

Thanks!

I've got a leatherman wingman and I'm very happy with it use it every day at work don't know what I did before it. Quite basic pliers knife scissors screwdrivers couple of other bits I don't use. it was about £40 plus 10 for a leather belt case thinking about getting another for camping trips

Still considering do I want to survive the end of the world or deck chair on the front lawn with a cold beer?

Unless you have a good reason for a Lock knife they are not EDC legal without a reasonable excuse... as the vast majority contain at least one locking knife blade = Illegal...... *

I carry a Gerber suspension to and from work as i work in a trade where i need a lock knife for the sake of my fingers.... (timber manufacturing based)

however there are one or 2 available without locking mechanisms

I own a Leatherman Wave, which I bought many years ago. I use it all the time for gardening and 'odd jobs' around the house. If you need a 'pocket tool-kit', then I thoroughly recommend buying one - expensive, but made to last - however, note Yorkshire Andy's comments, as all components are lockable.

As a jobbing engineer I own and use two. never leave home without one, attached to my belt. does have locking blade, I wouldn’t feel safe using a blade that didnt lock, but I use it every day for work so I do have a need.
Overall Leathermans are expensive but worth it mine take a beating and last for years.

I have a leatherman that lives in my bag. Endlessly useful beasties, it does everything from clear the crap off the crank on my carding drum to removing those ridiculous nut covers on car wheels. I've been able to fish it out numerous times to help random strangers who've needed something removed, tightened, tweaked or cut!

SOG Powerlock, user modifiable without voiding the warrenty (unlike Leathermans) and has compound leverage so it'll cut any wire you can get in the jaws.
Locking 'blades' but I'm going to swap the knife for something fluffy so I can EDC it.
