I believe someone else mentioned about your site it does make for interesting reading, I'm going to have to have a proper read through it when I get 5mins.
I agree with what you say about fitness is something a lot of people forget to consider for if the stuff hits the fan, I have to keep a decent level of fitness for work which does help some lol.
However with your comment about kit I agree, some people are over burdened with gucci gear but don't know how to use it or there is one item that can do the job of 3, so for my kit I've been stream lining it as best I can focusing on priorities like shelter, water, food and fire.
