Oh! Sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself. Don't let it make you scared to do stuff. I fell three times in a year (I WAS NOT DRUNK :)) in my drive carrying heavy (for me) stuff and tripping up/down outside steps. Knocked my confidence a bit. I was only mid forties, so not exactly frail!!!!! Got rid of the stupid Scholl type shoes and it hasn't happened since (touch wood). Hope you're getting 5 star treatment from Mrs Biggs and the family :).

Hope you feel better soon.

I had my own incident in the woods a couple of years back with a nicely sharpened axe and ended up in A&E, like you say you as you get older you start to realise how easy it is to do serious damage to yourself and I now have a huge box of first aid supplies. Its amazing how quickly bandages and dressings etc get used up and need replacing, so if anyone is relying on a standard first aid kit or 2, think again....

Massive result. Just broached subject of shelving (decided against the wardrobe idea, but will still be using the filing cabinets) in the garage with my husband and he is quite keen to get some (and pay - that's always a massive result :)), as the existing ones are not fit for purpose. Like the look of the Big Dug chrome shelving with 12 boxes, but would need another unit to hold the buckets too. Think we're going for a large galvanised unit - better for our unheated garage. We have a double garage, so I'm hoping, when we measure up, the 800mm depth won't seem too big - good, because then the 84l boxes can go in lengthwise. I'll be adding a few Really Useful Boxes onto the order too :). All the stuff in the house will hopefully be in the garage by next weekend. Gone out just now, but just need to pin him down later on. 8-)

Thanks for the kind words. I'm buzzing on ibuprofen and codeine so feeling quite happy at the moment. Prepping wise the major lesson learned was dealing with shock. I've never experienced that before and I was out of it, totally incapacitated by it for 30 mins or so but Mrs B was spot on with first aid.

I must get hold of some more codeine for other emergencies when perhaps the paramedics aren't on the scene so quick. Some smelling salts too.

Shock is the scariest part of falling, you just don't expect to be suddenly on the floor!! I slipped in a diesel spill in works car park a few winters ago right in front of a van I truly thought I was going to get run over as well as the damage from the fall. Was off work for two weeks as leg went black with bruises and my knees were in a terrible state for months. The shock left me shaking like a jelly, in tears and feeling very sick. Not a nice thing to happen. :(

I do my codeine stash a few months apart and from different towns, if you are a familiar face at the chemists and repeat purchasing codeine they can refuse to sell it to you! I've one more place in my local high street to go to then will go further out for my stashing. ;) will also add smelling salts to my list.

Fairly major thing sorted, ripped out seventies open tiled fireplace and installed new multi fuel burner, lit first time today, currently stinking the room out while it cures, but already can't believe how little fuel it's using and the heat it's giving off while closed right down.
This is going to be worth every penny, now all our heating and cooking, plus hot water is free with the rayburn doing it's bit also.
Next step is the bore hole and some more concrete out buildings.

Just a little bit jealous :). We have a not so modern house with a gas fire on an outside wall - no chimney. It's OK, except not the most efficient and I'm not so keen on the surround, but that's just personal taste, but we don't use it much. At some point I will be looking into replacing the whole thing with a multi-fuel burner. Surrounded by trees as we are, it just makes sense. Also, I wonder how rhododendron burns  ? It's rampant here and I'm sure the woods committee would thank us for helping to keep it in check :). A ... water ... borehole? Really jealous now. I think we have solid rock not far underneath us :(. Which burner did you buy?

Feisty, it's an unbranded sold by mole valley farmers! Paid less than two hundred as ex display model and on a special. Has a flat top so that we can cook on it which was one of our criteria when looking for one. Seriously though I just can't believe we didn't get this sorted earlier, it has used no wood and the heat is ridiculous!
Not sure about burning rhodies? I pick up pallets and break them up with the chainsaw and mix it with my hardwood logs.
Borehole is not essential as we have a river as one of our boundaries, and a pond/small lake, plus we harvest a lot of rain water, but the thought of not paying for mains water is very appealing. Get that sorted then small turbine and panels and the utilities can go whistle. Slowly slowly were getting there, Mrs picked up another free greenhouse last week which we'll join to the other one she wombled giving us a 18x8 coupled with the 40ft Polly that's some really serious growing potential.

I know it's expensive, but have you looked at an exterior flu coming in through the wall to attach a wood burner? One of my customers did it because they didn't have a chimney.

Picked up a whetstone too for maintaining the beast and putting an edge back on the mora :( seeing as the only stone i bought was my puck in my bob. Earlier in the week i ebay'd 50 steritabs, laplander, millbank bank and a little folding wood stove. Just a cheap dd tarp and bivy bag to find now.
