I've always been wary of carrying meths in the burner, normally burning it off which is a waste. Have you had any problems with leakage?

Not yet!

I have left the burner upside down for a while and no sign of a leak so far. I am carrying it in the bottom of a water bottle pouch on the outside of my bag. So that will keep it vertical and if there is a leak it will be on the outside of the holdall.

Another issue is that it is less efficient to have the burner full when you use it. But the trade off might be worth it as I don't want to carry fuel separately.

Well then....I think I've changed my mind...again :D

I ordered a cheapy, Chinese windshield to try and make the meths burner/trivet combination a bit more efficient but it hasn't arrived yet.

In the meantime I broke out my euro mess kit to try out again. And even though it's a bit heavy and bulky for what I was going for, I think it will be going back in the BOB! :D

Just tried it in the garden and it just works. It was much more efficient in terms of time and fuel usage than having the meths burner exposed. It has two pans, one of which is a lid for the other and a windshield. It's big enough to store a bottle of meths, a meths burner and a small ss cup, a can opener, box of matches, small cleaning sponge and cloth, fire steel, and probably a fair bit more. I will probably carry a second burner as suggested by @Mally and the cheap windshield and trivets as a back up without too much extra weight.

Here is the mess kit in use during an overnighter. Boiled water for tea, then used the lid/frying pan to cook a tin of beans and sausages! The pan just takes a typical 400g tin of whatever you choose! (Of course in hindsight I could have just cooked the beans in the tin) :D
