Best value first aid supplies in UK?

Post by kernewek »

Has anyone done any comparisons to see which companies offer the best prices for general items like bandages, dressings etc?

Wilkinsons had a 3 for 2 offer on their first aid stuff the other day (www.wilko.com/health-and-wellbeing/first-aid). That worked for me.

Home Bargains are also worth a look as they have fabulous prices, not just on first aid goodies either! Can you tell I'm loving this new shop discovery of mine

I use Medisave and have done for years, their prices are good enough that I can buy from them to re-sell.

Get onto Amazon or the net in general and search out First Aid Supplies.

The sort of stuff you get at Wilko's or Home Bargains is going to be pretty limited, typically cheapo plasters and a couple of bandages, but if you are prepping, I would suggest you need much more extensive supplies to deal with deep cuts and infection prevention etc...

Also do not underestimate how quickly you will use your supplies, wound dressings etc can be very quickly depleted if you are changing them a couple of times a day.

I agree totally. I made a mistake at work yesterday and sliced a finger with my boning knife. Forgive the pun, but I bled like a stuck pig. We use the Wallace and Cameron first aid kits, full of quality gear. It pays.

Its not all cheapo stuff in home bargains, I got branded hay fever tablets , spray on plaster, fabric plasters, blister plasters, strip plasters, eye wash and plenty of other stuff but cheaper than high street chemists. A mix of high street and online is good.

Hi Decaff, you misunderstand what I mean, as far as plasters and things go, then yes that are fine, but............. these sorts of supplies really have very very limited uses, yes they are fine for minor cuts; scratches; grazes etc, though if you cut yourself as Jansman has, or indeed as I have in the past, then plasters of whatever type are completely useless.

You need to be looking at proper wound dressings; skin closure strips; antiseptic liquid etc, and PLENTY of them, you'll be amazed at how many times you may have to change the dressing on a wound before it heals. The sorts of things I am thinking of include:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/St-John-Ambulan ... d+dressing

http://www.amazon.co.uk/NexcareTM-Steri ... ure+strips

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trauma-Sterile- ... a+dressing

http://www.amazon.co.uk/QuikClot-Respon ... Z2WD6HKA5C

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0032UY9BQ/r ... NWAZJ2285Z

http://www.safetyservicesdirect.com/hse ... 3818-p.asp

http://www.safetyservicesdirect.com/fir ... 2173-p.asp

http://www.safetyservicesdirect.com/bri ... 3815-p.asp

Ultimately as preppers we need to think what if an ambulance can't make it or we can't contact them; what if the A&E department is no longer available, how would you cope with a deep cut to your hand/leg/arm/abdomen etc??
