A few cheap Amazon purchases - Inova X1.

Post by i11matic1795 »

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd post this as I've been buying a few bits on Amazon..

The Inova X1 is supposed to be a really good EDC flashlight, at £10 it looks spot on, reduced from £29 but seems like £20 is the going rate most places, either way a good saving! :)

Also got myself a new EDC backpack -

Some light sticks -

And a Zippo, more because I fancied something quality to keep in my pocket rather than the usual plastic clipper. -

Hi Paddy,

Zippos are nice to have, downside is that the fuel evaporated too quickly for my liking, for long term I would stick with Bic/clipper Gas Lighters or similar.

I agree. You have to 'manage' a Zippo. Refill about every 3 to 4 days. I keep a disposable in my pocket most of the time myself. The Zippo is perfect in a windy outdoor situation, but back it up with the clipper.

I've had an Imco Esbit for years, it's a petrol lighter like a zippo (allegedly zippos were based on them) but it has a double skin system so the fuel doesn't seem to evaporate anywhere near as much.
The adjustable wind shield on it is pretty cool too.

I hadn't realised that, thanks for letting me know! I'll be keeping disposables in most places anyway, there's always a Clipper in my bag and always have loads in the house, the Zippo is a bit of a novelty really, they do feel quality though which is nice!

That sounds cool, I'll have a look into them, thanks!

Don't get me wrong, I really like Zippos. They are quality. I tend to use mine in Winter, when the stoves are being lit regularly, and bonfires too. Means I am aware of the fuel level.

This looks like a nice little 'extra' for alpha male on Christmas Day. I've had a look and the fuel referred to is 'lighter oil', is it petrol, or a specific fuel?

Thanks

Ha ha it'll run on anything that burns if needs be, but it'll take regular old zippo/swan lighter fluid.
The wicks and flints are also interchangeable with the ones you can buy for zippos, as I have one of each. The Esbit is just a bit different so that's the one I usually have on me.

Zippos are good and solid, but... That smell of the fuel sets my teeth on edge, Mr Decaff has a few and I can smell when he's used one.

It is a winter purchase, they're the toughest lighters I really know about and have always kinda wanted one, an Esbit is tempting me now though

I agree the smell can be a bit overpowering, I won't be using it too regularly though :)
