picking the knife for me

Post by cheif7891 »

Hi guys need some advice on to knives I'm down to the sog seal pup and the gerber prodigy it will be used around camp and in b.o.b bag not really needed for wood prosseing as have an axe for that it will be paired with my bk14.

The main reason for these two knives is price iv found them both for £47 each think that's a good deal just wondering what's an overall better knife.

Hey cheif. You seem pretty keen on the fixed blades. Have you considered spending that coin on a more versatile tool, like a leatherman or Victorinox?
When you say around camp and in the b.o.b if it's just for light duty work a good quality Swedish Mora would serve you well :)
The only thing more valuable than the things you carry, is knowing how to make and maintain them.

Hello! Both knives look the mutts nuts, just preference really. I'll have a look at the reviews for myself actually.

Meantime, don't make the same mistake as I did. I bought I nice big versatile knife, lovely bargain of a multitool and a small axe to stick in my GHB. But then realised thanks to the folk on here that I'd have some explaining to do to the plod should they stop me. I'd probably have ended up in court.

Now I've got a small EDC that only comprises of legal carry equipment and the next toy I'm going for it the SOG paratool. Either that or the Leatherman C2. Both legal carry and have excellent versatility and reviews.

Also, for that kind of money I'd shop around. I know Bear Grylls is cheesy but I love it and got his ultimate survival knife from the proper website, the serrated version, for £45.

Hi buddy the gerber prodigy is a fall tang version of the bear grylls ultimate knife just more military looking....my b.o.b bag is kitted for urban survival only for when sh*t hits the fan so tomahawk bk14, powerlock and so on wouldn't be a problem my edc tool is the sog pocket power plier basically a mini sog powerlock the paratool doesn't have the compound leverage that they do just food for fort mate :)

Aye, you sound like you know your pickles man. I'll quietly bow out. :D

But isn't mine full tang? I got mine from here for £45 because it was discontinued. Still bargains to be had on it though, I reckon. It's a nice bit of kit and I use it all the time while camping.

If I remember the bear grylls ultimate pro is full tang but others only 3quater like the gerber lmf 2-- bloody good knife might i add though the bear grylls range is nice in a rescue/survival station everything is there in a neat package.
