So in the event of ebola becoming out of hand in the UK where you then decide that enough is enough and its time to sit tight in your home and ride it out.
What would be the top ten items that we shoudl have ready in an ebola event?

Re: Ebola Gear

Re: Ebola Gear
Can't help thinking that if a major epidemic were to hit and death rates were to start rising prepping against the disease itself would be only the first part. We've seen the economic effects in Africa and should Ebola affect the west to any degree it could cause another recession as our economies shutdown to counter the disease. Travel and therefore trade would undoubtably be hit , people would probably reduce their contact with others both work and socially and the bean counters would have a fit plunging us into a financial crisis just to add to reduced food , fuel and pretty much everything else .

My initial thoughts:

Food
Heat

Alternative toilet facilities
Means of exercise

Comms

If you are sitting tight you probably won't need the masks, gloves and body protection, unless you plan on going out in a pandemic? Always have plenty of bleach / cleaning products / sanitiser in your supplies.Roadkill wrote:would you go further than these basics and get stuff in such as masks, gloves body protection ?

Behind every great man is an even greater woman. She carried you, raised you and made you who you are.

Re: Ebola Gear
You should prep as you would for an extended bug-in - food, water, "morale" items, and so on, and preps for interruptions to power and water supplies as the guys who keep the lights and taps on might also get sick. So candles, paper plates, alternative toilets etc.
Re: Ebola Gear
If you want some protective gear in case you had to venture out then you need:
Goggles
N95 masks
Disposable gloves
Shoe over covers
Tyvec gown

Fail to prepare, then prepare to fail.
Re: Ebola Gear
But in addition to all the protective gear - the goggles, gloves, masks etc - wouldn't you also have to have the means to get them sterilised between/after use? I read an article in The Guardian earlier by one of the medical team in Sierra Leone, and she spoke about the decontamination process after contact with infected patients. The nursing teams have to be hosed down with chlorine spray before removing their gear. I realise that someone going out to restock their food supplies is far less likely to be in direct contact with the virus than a medic, but it's the removal of the protective gear afterwards which worries me, and which is where a big risk lies.
