Hi everyone
Looking for some guidance. What would your trigger be to go into lockdown? Just considering practicalities of work etc but if we get the timing wrong it's all pretty pointless!!!!

Its a really individual decision, if it ever happens - there ae a lot of threads on the forum now about ebola, have a read through - maybe make a draft of what would you do if *this* happens, or *that* happens, and post it up for discussion?

Many don't have the ability to go into either lockdown or bug out . Practicalities such as having to make a living , school the kids etc get in the way. It is possible to tailor one's lifestyle to minimise potential exposure. The obvious thing to do is not to travel to Africa , indeed avoiding air travel completely might be a good idea , are planes disinfected after every flight? Try to travel less , especially to crowded or densely populated areas , perhaps avoid places like public baths saunas and the like . Shop in bulk so as to reduce the number of trips to crowed shops that are needed and also to give one a cushion to fall back on.
At the moment the virus isn't here so we can largely just carry on as we are. We do have better hygiene , sanitation and healthcare than the worse hit areas of Africa . No system is perfect of course but there's really no need to worry unduly .

A known or strongly suspected outbreak close enough that a carrier could come into contact with one person away from my self or my family.

For example a friend of mine regularly works in Spain, were there any indications that the isolated cases there were starting to develop into an outbreak then I would consider taking measures.

I'd probably think about locking the house down once there was a case of Ebola in my city, it's a small city of just over 100,000 and I work for one of the biggest employers so chances of coming into contact with the illness is quite likely, especially when I'm on and off other peoples computers every day. I could possibly work from home so that's a help.

My personal trigger points are:

1 - Reach 10 UK infected patients, I will then actively increase my food stockpiles at a faster than normal rate (I know people will say don't panic buy, but end of the day i'm here to protect my family and nobody else).
2 - First case in my county (think seriously about pulling the kids out of school)
3 - Cases reach the main city near where I live/nearby villages, go into quarantine
4 - If situation persists for a long time and there is a breakdown in social order I will go to my bug out location.

Thanks for the replies - sone good ideas for me to look out for. When I've been doing sone reading sone American peepers said they'd lockdown if there was a case within 100 miles - not really feasible in Britain tho lol.
Will keep going on my stock levels and keep a close eye on the news. My other half works in lobdon and I'm a nurse so we are both high risk really if it does cone to the uk.

I suspect #4 won't be needed, I imagine the panic will be worse than the actual infection rate but I'd still rather stay clear of it altogether.

I imagine #1 and #2 will be needed, but I think the infection rate will be far lower than what we are being led to believe by the media. The biggest concern could be the aftermath, if everybody stays at home the economy both locally and globally could put us into a long deep tripple dip recession but that's for another thread

We are already heading for a triple dip recession. the trouble with this Ebola lark ( and I am NOT belittling the threat) is that it is up there with SARS, Swine/Bird Flu,BSE (and that one nearly finished my career, as the country was supposed by now to be half full of brain -rotted zombies!)
There have been,sadly, 4000 victims of Ebola. Worldwide. Mostly Africa, in areas with poor sanitation and medical care. Africa is a big place with a good few millions of inhabitants, so I think it has to be kept in perspective frankly.
