Hi everyone, I'm a mother of 1 (soon to be 2) and became concerned with my lack of self sufficiency and preparation shortly after becoming a mother. My partner doesn't share my interest in this, far too easy going as far as I'm concerned! But the way I see it, it's a practical insurance policy. My dad has always been interested in prepping but his efforts seem a bit half hearted so I'm looking to broaden my horizons and knowledge. Any tips on prepping with young kids in mind would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Maximus, welcome to the forum! And congratulations on the impending arrival, lovely news! Its natural that you want them to be as safe and as well as possible, and prepping is exactly that - even to the extent of having enough water to give your toddler if there were a burst water main, something as mundane as that.

I'll have a think about young kids, but there's lots of mums, and lots of active dads on here, who'll show up sooner or later. In the meantime, have a little explore, and see what you think.

Hi. Welcome to the group.
I am in Herts as well. I am a grandmother, so no young ones, but do prep with my grand-kids in mind. One pf my children believe in prepping but the ones who have children laugh about it. So I keep it quiet and just do what I do with what I have and hope if and when the time comes I will be able to get my daughter and her two children here.

My other child who has 4 children lives in Scotland, and lives for today, so that is a big worry for me, as no way will I be able to get them here.

Its not easy when people are not more on-board. Maybe get your dad more involved at least that way you wont feel so alone and have someone to bounce personal ideas off.

The other day I stocked up on children's medicine, first aid and vitamins.

I am a grand father of 3 and another on the way. as for advice look at the forum there is loads of stuff on here. My areas of special interest are Radio communications and solar PV for energy for the prepper. Every thing else is general .

Thanks for all the welcome messages. Having a healthy supply of stockpiled food is already in place, and my father feels he has sufficient defence plans. I think the areas I want to educate myself the most in are things like water filtration, having adequate medical supplies and basic knowledge of first aid. At the moment I am trying to learn about small things one at a time, or I find myself getting a bit overwhelmed (I have a tendency to lean towards the doomsday scenarios!). I have started doing a lot more out in the woods with my son like making dens, so that survival skills I learn and pass to him seem like fun.
Already found a few interesting starting points from browsing the forum, looking forward to whatever I learn!
