Newcastle Newbie

Post by theylive »

Hello, all, from Newcastle. Just a quick introduction to why I am here. I have been thinking about preparing for the worst for quite a while now, the feeling that something big is going to happen is growing stronger inside every day, but yet I still always seemed to put it off... then I watched Threads, and it brought all my fears to the surface. Made me realise just how easily things could spiral out of control in the current climate and I want to be ready for my family. Basically, instead of being scared, I want to be prepared. Wow, didn't intend that to rhyme, lol...... So my 'scenario' is a bomb detonated in Newcastle, about 5 miles from me. With luck we can survive the blast and the heat. I plan to sit it out at home and try to survive the radiation. Would welcome any tips on this - shelter, radiation advice, protective clothing etc. and also would welcome hearing from anyone doing similar, in the North East and anywhere else. Cheers

Hi :)

I watched Threads when I was pregnant with my youngest. I don't know if it was the film itself, or that fact that I watched it when I was hormonal, but it stayed with me for months - genuinely, it concerned me so much that I couldn't get it off my mind. The thought of trying to bring my children up in a post-apocalyptic world is not nice :(

I don't have any advice I'm afraid - my knowledge in this area is sadly lacking, and is probably limited to what's in the film - but I'm sure someone else will come along and offer some words of wisdom :)
