Depending on the age of the children you could get them involved with prepping. Teach them about stock control and rotating food.
Teach them to make bread from scratch.
Start growing some vegetables and give them a patch they can grow stuff with.
When I started prepping my children were already too old (and cool) to get involved. I have managed to teach them about rotating the food as they help put it all away in the storage space.
They are not interested in the garden, although do help with the chickens.
But I do believe, even though they take the mickey put of what I do, they see the reasons behind it.

Thanks preppingsu, that's a good idea. My children are only 2 and 4, but the 4 year old is already interested in our vegetable patch and I think if we start showing them things now, they'll hopefully just accept it and get involved. Fingers crossed anyway!
