Welcome :)

What sort of things are you prepping for?

I'd add batteries to your list, a couple of LED torches and a radio........either the wind up kind or the kind that can charge batteries/capacitors inside the radio from a built in solar panel

Hi there and welcome, a journey of a thousand miles (as they say) starts with a single step. Cheap bottled water is widely available and I would get some if I were you! :D

Ah, and food.................. there's loads of info here, dig in and you will find all kinds of ideas

Datahelp,
I'm in the Chelmsford area of 'area 4'
My family preps as a family unit of mum, dad, son, two daughters, son-in-law and the two grand kids.
Prepping at entry level looks like a massive up hill climb but it is simpler when you have a second look at the project with the aid of info like that which is here on ukpreppers.
There are many different prepping scenarios and you would need to field which one, or combinations, you feel prompts you to pro-actively prep now for the future.
I am also involved with a cross England group with a few members in Essex who also prep.
If I/we are close enough to you then perhaps in the future at some point we could meet up with a few other preppers from our area to offer some insight into what preps we do and for why.

Have a look around, work out what you can and then, if you wish, the offer of local meet-up with like minded preppers is there on the table.

Welcome,
Wulfshead

I'd agree with storing a bit of water first, rather than going straight to purification routines - after all, we could be speaking of a burst watermain, its little local emergencies that are more likely to happen. I'd also advise matches to light the candles, rather than going to fire and steel (I have both, but matches are a *lot* easier!).

Soap is a great prep! A week's no/easy cook food, in case of powercuts, which EDF is telling us are likely this year.

Have a look round the forum, as jansman, Stasher and Wulfshead are saying, and see what you think.
