Briggs would it not be simpler for going for hamradios first link , all in one pack , yes its 100 quid more but, might be less hassel ?

It's less hassle, yes, but I'm the sort of chap that needs to know how things work so when they need fixing I can do it. After reading several reviews, I think that cheapo turbine is going to fail. I've got a 400watt wind gen, from ebay about the same price imported from China. Never had any hassle with it, charges up a couple of leisure batteries which supply 12volts to my workshop. Never run dry yet.
Have a emergency 12volt point in house and charge up storm lamps etc really useful up here in the north with our annual winter power cuts.

Mongrel, can you fill me in on the sort of turbine you have? What company did you get it from? What wind speed does it need? We've got a path round the side of the house that the wind fairly gusts down but don't know if it would activate a turbine, though. Much appreciated.
