Hello and welcome. Have a read of the above post - Top Tips for New Preppers.
Foraging can happen anywhere.
Get a copy of

This is great for starters. Take a map out with you at all times and note on it where you see fruit trees etc

Re: essex preppers
Hello essex prepper.
I'll tell you where to start: with a deep breath and a cuppa tea. Seriously. Sit down when you have at least an hour, and look around the forum. Have a think about what you're concerned about, what might need prepping, cover the ordinary stuff first: a power cut, a burst water main, snow or flooding. Do you have kids? How would you cook in a power cut? What would you drink? Buy a couple of cans of stuff you like every time you go shopping, a packet of lentils, something like that, and let your food stocks build up a bit.
Water, easy cook food, a camping stove, a couple of torches, a first aid kit. Have a think about what you've already got under those headings.

Hello and welcome Essesurvivour
Basically Arzosah hits the nail on the head.
Spend a month looking at the forum and perhaps then, if you are still interested in prepping, we could get a few of the Essex preppers together.
It is a subject dear to me so I applaud one who takes the first step and as such it's good to chuck ideas about in informal public settings.
I think the first thing to realise is that should you be given 1000 years to prep you, nor anyone else, will ever be 100 % satisfied that you have all boxes fully ticked.
Are you prepping solo or for a family ?, and what is your main reason why you now feel the need to prep.
Get among the threads and don't be worried if something you ask/post is replied in a way which you may consider slightly negative. We all here share the same base instinct, the ethos of the forum seems to be to help hone our skills to best succeed in that instinctual drive.
Once again, welcome.

I like to think that the term 'Zombies' relates to the brain-dead attitude of people that think a SHTF scenario can never nor ever will happen to them or those around them.
I like to think those same mocking people will be the ones that are running around like zombies on speed witnessing that their world hitting the skids and having to try to be 'all right Jack the lad' in a scenario that they have absolutely no grasp of the fundamentals post SHTF.
The Zombie in my mind is the person who can not see the detriment creeping in because reality TV is Oh so much worthy of thought time.
