In or Out

Post by Djorn »

Living in the middle of nowhere does have advantages over city living, lack of hungry people at the end of the world springs to mind, but saying that the golden horde do believe that country folk have stock piled food for “just in case situations”, and on the whole that is true, we have a number of boxes buried around the garden and in the woods. The biggest question is whether you bug in or bug out, we (wife and I) have spoken over this a numbers of times and due to the location our best bet is to bug in and defend, there is only one wee road onto our country lane and we are looking at rigging two of the largest trees to “fall” across the road if TSHTF. We have 3 houses on a 3 mile stretch of lane and could block the other end the same way. I haven’t yet approached the other two houses as we haven’t been here long and don’t want to come across as a flipping nutter…

What are your plans? Bug-in or Bug-out

To be honest, my preps haven't got to the stage where I'm rigging trees to fall as road barricades. What sort of SHTF are you expecting to bug in and defend against?

EDIT: Forgive me, I can see you've answered my question in your post about EMPs and CREs.

Our plans are centered around the specific needs of our family.
I, as head of the family prepping momentum, have to factor into such plans my 88 year old father, my mother-in-law, type 1 diabetic wife, two young grandchildren and me being less able than I was almost 3 years ago.
My three children and son-in-law could get here within 30 minutes if this house with our preps were needed to form our family's disaster hub.

Now our BOL is only 10 minutes away from my home and well within the range I could carry my BOB but that will be an 11th hour option.
Our household preps are for a month with extra purchases as they catch our eyes (diet specific in my wife's case)
We will 'bug in' right up until the last safe moment or until a relative ingress of detrimental factors are close to my house or encroaching upon the facilities I need rely on as part of our daily life structure.

Well, that's about it thus far.

Wulfshead, type 1 diabetic is rough dude, thats a hard one to Prep for I bet, being the meds have a shelf life and have to be kept at a certain temp, i guess diet plays a huge part, careful carbs and sugars etc. Got the Crossbow...OMG...it is pure evil...yet to find a target that it doesn't rip through.

Yep Djorn, that crossbow is very fit for purpose :D
My family group have more than one to hand.
I got some 20 inch carbon bolts arriving today, I read on a bow forum that 20 inch bolts are better than the 17 inch that come with the bow.
