Here's a close-up of that cheap rope. Notice there is no inner strands, just a spongy core.

Oh, its three-part construction.... I've got some like that, but mine has a cotton braid outer mantle rather then that ones synthetic.
Its a really good rope for practicing knots as its nice to handle.

10-12mm. It kinks very easily.
There are not many circumstances where it would be useful. I'm glad I only paid a few quid for it.
