General public wholesalers ?

Post by Devils »

I hope this hasn't been asked before, but are there general public wholesalers, available to us preppers to buy a few bulk items ?

I've looked this up online and found very few, one that delivers would be great ?

Any ideas ?

Many thanks

Hi there, I don't know much about wholesaling myself, but I can pretty much guarantee that people who do will ask you what kind of goods are you thinking of :)

I do know of Costco, actually, but I think people going there still check prices on *some* things to ensure they're getting the best deal.

Some JTF stores allow non-trade customers. Nearest to you is Tamworth I think. How about buying in bulk from amazon?

Not sure if it's of any use as it's more aimed at businesses but there is also Bookers , I use one in Tamworth myself. Being self employed I am allowed to use the place even if the stuff I buy bears no relation to the type of work I do.

I have the option of getting my local shop to buy things for me from the wholsalers, he's offered to get me things on many occassions. Could be worth getting extra friendly with your local shop keepers and it costs nothing to ask.

I used to take the Evil one to a local Bookers type place when her minion was out of commission, some things were not that cheap and prices were displayed ex-VAT, know your prices at the normal supermarkets, Wholesalers offer discount in the Electrical industry as I remember and that is what makes them a better bet for the trade than B+Q, that and credit ;) Amazon may indeed be a better bet.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Plymton hit the nail on the head, some of my family use Bookers, I was finaly dragged along, but nearly everything I liked the look of my wife assured me that she buys it cheaper in Asda or Tesco!
So I am a little miffed by it all, there are thing there that you cannot get in large quantities or atall in normal highstreet shops like chaffing gel or bike puncture repair kits, but that was the way it went all day, we buy large bags of chicken breast, thats about it?
I have a costco card, but its much the same, it seemed more like if you needed to do a party it is convenient to get it all there not really any cheaper though.
the thing that I was most surprised about was hulahoops, a simple thing (packed lunch for work) the huge venor boxes worked out more expencive than both the affor mentioned supermarkets, but they dont have the words "multipac not for resale on them"!

Try Suma, I've had good reports of them from friends and I intend to use them myself not just for the supplies stash but for stuff to sell in the shop too come the new year :)

Yes that is true , you do have to go forewarned with comparison prices so to speak. Some things can be gotten cheaper but as you say some things work out dearer. Not wholesale but near me is a co-op that has always got a reduced to clear section and even closer is a freezer with a lot of yellow reduced labels in it :D

Edit
Amazon may be cheaper but as I've mentioned previously I personally try to avoid them.
