New Crossbow

Plymtom, over to you, is this a good choice or am I off the mark and would be better off going for another.

It looks great mate, the only thing I'd say against the one's which use the carbon arrows only, is the loosing them factor could get a bit pricey, if you're playing where there's a good bit of vegetation they can be a bugger to find if you miss but go for it, rule number one applies

I've just got a recurve 175 Lb Jaguar like the other guys but it's a few years back now and I only had about £200 to spend and for that I got a 60 Lb compound bow also, another gripe with crossbows and compound bows is space, especially if you only have a little car, ours was ram jam full when we took our stuff to the range

I have to agree with Plympton, enyoy a bow or crossbow, and yes depending on where you live, you may be able to use one for putting some food on the table, but IMHO a decent air rifle is better for this. As for using one in a SHTF scenario, i have a compound bow, and i seriously doubt i could hit a moving target at any distance (maybe as close as 20 yds), personally enjoy shooting your bow, and once again, with plympton, carbon arrows, cost plenty, i buy bare shafts and make arrows up myself, they still cost nearly six quid a pop, expensive if you break or lose them and, don't buy one for SHTF scenario, not yet anyway

Good weapons in my opinion, and fun to use, but stringing them wasn't so fun.

I have the Jag 175lb and like it, the only problem I have is finding a target for it...I have a large garden with wooded area but still find it hard to find something that it doesn't puch through, just wondering what you guys use?

Google-fu turns up a few options, but I liked the compressed carpet one the most (low-tech and using commonly available cheap materials)

Dammit I threw away a load of carpet off cuts when we had our roof done, along with about 8 car loads of other crap I'd been accumulating in the loft, I was embaressed when the roofers said it was the worst one they'd ever seen for being cluttered up now I've seen the idea though I bet I can get some of the other folk to bring some to the club so we can make a few, I think I'd use luggage straps around the edges though, someone is bound to hit the threaded rods from the side, although if we made half a dozen of them...

the wife is buying me the ARMEX JAGUAR CAMO CROSSBOW 175LB RECURVE KIT, i have been thinking about getting one for years, just never got around to it. looking forward to owning it.. i'm not aggressive in person or by nature , but if the SHTF it could be a handy tool.

Briggs 2.0 the crossbow you refer to is a compound which would not be a good choice as they are not easily maintained and should the string snap you will require a bow press to replace the string. I would look at a recurve where the string hooks on the end of the bow, it is a tried and tested design and the string can be replaced simply even out in the field. Depending on you budget the best models are made by Excalibur but there are cheaper options such as Jandao or Hori-zone, the website with the best choice here in the UK is http://outdoorhobbies.co.uk/crossbows-- ... ls-1-c.asp I am not sure about Blades and Bows as they have few to choose from and their score on trust pilot is awful.
