Wedge Door Stop Alarm
We take one of these with us whenever we stop in hotels or guest houses.

My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.

Sounds silly, but I used windchimes in places where a gate/door/window opening would knock them as early warning to people entering or (children) leaving an area.
Cheap as chips,no installation as such, and effective as advance warning.

window safety film applied to the glass. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Safety-Securi ... 0738127024

Cling film can be used to make secondary glazing to reduce heat loss.

Doesn't sound silly at all to me - its like having a doorbell on the gate! Its also not obviously a security device, which is also good. They'd have to be out of the wind of course, wouldn't they, otherwise they'd be set off all the time. I confess, I don't like constant sound like that  but as a normal looking security device, its great!
