I am concluding from this, "Although I own several multi-tools with locking blades, they would not have been in compliance with UK knife laws, so the only M-T packed was the Swisschamp" that the Swisschamp is good to go and won't get my husband arrested ... :? .

Can't find a blade length / cutting edge length for that particular knife

However found this
http://www.smartknives.com/Swiss-Army-K ... -Blade.htm

As long as its not fixed and has a cutting edge less than 3" (not blade length ) its legal....

Also have a look at the leatherman juce range

Providing you have a reason to carry, blah blah blah, the SOG Paratool is a UK legal multi tool and the CRKT Liong Mah 5 is a legal knife, both are worth checking out, especially the CRKT.

Hope I'm ok to add something to this thread, rather than a specific new thread!

Just thought I'd let you all know that the Victorinox SAK - Camper is £15.50 at Tesco Direct, so delivered to your local Tesco for free. I had some vouchers to use online so paid £10.50. Might be helpful to someone.

I wasn't sure which one that is, so I found a pic.

I got me one of these... http://www.heinnie.com/lansky-world-legal-knife-17542

Its quite large (but still legal) & needs both hands to open & close it safely, its as tough as old boots & had a keen edge out of the box.

At the price its good value & should last a long time.

Hello all,

I have a Victorinox Swiss Champ (red handle, not sure I've seen a black one).

I have it in my EDC. I have a rucksack, a Wenger IBEX (amusingly Wenger and Victorinox both make 50% of the Swiss army's knives, a business arraignment which states one is the 'Original' and one is the 'Official' SAK)

Anyhow, I was walking about in London with family one day, and we decided to head into the Public Gallery in the Houses of Parliament. We went through the airport-style security screening, and had not thought, oh I'm carrying a knife, and other lit. So in the line I got a small bag containing the more 'interesting' EDC items, and handed it over, and asked to leave it with the police while we went in. They insisted on scanning it, and saw the knife, spare batteries etc, and asked me a few questions, and I said its something I carry around as it has scissors, bottle opener etc on there, and I always keep it with my FAK.

They were fine with it. No problem at all, went in, collected it after. This was budget day, in the afternoon through, 2013.

So long story short, the police saw it, held it for about 45 mins, and then gave it back. No hassles. Unless official guidelines have changed, I think any of the smaller (non-locking Victorinox) knives are fine. If I was ever going to be in trouble, it would have been then.

I hope this is of interest.

That is very interesting and helpful...great post, thanks :)

I carry a Victorinox Farmer if I am out for a stroll in the woods or walking the dog. In more urban environs I carry a Gerber Bear Grylls compact multi tool. However more often than not I don't carry an EDC blade just in case...and to be honest I can't remember the last time I "needed" one.

It is good to hear that the police are sensible about such things.

I think I have said this before, but my friend is a firearms policeman, I showed him my snugpac EDC and in there is a "boyztoyz" folding locking half serated knife. Its not great but it came in a multipack I was given so thought it was better to use it as a back up. Anyway, he said as it was in a tin, in the bag, and in context with the rest of the contents it was obvious to him why I had it, but that would be different if it was just in my pocket.
I think context and situation are alot to do with it, a grown man in his 40's dressed like a woodsman with a sodbuster in a leather slip in him pocket, wont cause any concern? I hope :D
