Tent or Tarp shelter

Hello people.

Simple question:

Do you guys prefer a tent or would you go for the tarp shelter

That's a can of worms you've just opened.

I use both dependant apon location, activity, time of year and weather.

I have a 'one-man' tent but you're fairly restricted as to what you can do if it's peeing down, especially cooking, so I carry a basha tarp to use if that's the case.
I also carry a good sized poncho so if needed I can sit, leaning against a tree still wearing my rucksack. With something insulated to sit on and wearing gaiters and walking boots this offers a quick (if not comfortable) means of shelter in a hurry.

Either or both depending upon the camp. Overall I prefer tents.

When I camp with a group I'm involved with I use a small hiking tent that I bought from Lidl. I am impressed enough with it as it is waterproof and light to carry on my pack.
My friends tell me they are waiting for my back to get as good as it can before they invite me on a series of extended hikes. For that it will be a basha.

I guess both have merits and drawbacks but each is better than getting wet.
I also have a poncho which is another good method of insulation if going the basha route.
