Yes it does, but only in the part of the can that doesn't contain diesel.
My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.

From a selfish point of view I am thinking that size may be an issue. If we had a stash of 25litre metal containers and my men were incapacitated I'm not sure how easily I could lift and carry that weight any distance, or if I could lift it and tip in a controlled manner into the car

I'm assuming that most women may have the same difficulty, or maybe I'm just weak and pathetic!

:D

All our fuel is in 5 and 10 litre containers (metal and plastic - rotated into the vehicle tanks every couple of months) simply because it's easier to carry and for me to use.

the bigger the container the harder the are to move .so bigger is better , just decant it into smaller more user friendly cans . decent lock on them and its harder to carry off with out getting caught .

So I rock up at a garage, pull my 20l metal Jerry out, am I allowed to fill it or is it limited to 5l emergency plastic? My old POS diesel I am sure would run on my dogs offerings, and there is always octane boosters to sweeten the mix. My problem is I don't do that many miles, I fill my car's 70l tank up maybe once every four months, and I have four 20l cans to rotate, but as a chemist, in a hermetically sealed metal tank how can it degrade or flash off lighter vapors.

Filled up at Tesco the other day. 2 x 20 litre jerry cans and 1 x 10 litre jerry can. I must have been there a good ten minutes or more.
Open side door of van, take out first can (I could do it with them in situ but don't want the drips on my carpet) fill can while getting next can out so the nozzle can go straight into it. Same with third can. Next, open bottle of Redex and pour half contents in fuel tank, start filling tank and then pump goes off due to reaching the maximum quantity allowed in one go. After various hand signals to cashier, pump starts again and I'm on my way to very nearly £150 of diesel.
My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.

Think it's been brought up on here before and it seems to be clear that you can't legally store petrol in a 20L jerry can , diesel is ok though , however it seems less clear about storing fuel in cans in a vehicle

You know the scene in Mad Max where he walks out carrying 4x 20l jerry cans on length of pole, I bet they never tried that out with them full...A 20l can is roughly about 25kg full.
If you use the military ones you can get a metal spout that fits on to pour with, then you can rest the can a bit as you fill up, I wouldn't recommend using a funnel unless you have a vehicle with easy to access tanks and a near horizontal filler - trying to hold the funnel with one hand whilst tipping a full jerry can with the other usually ends up with trousers covered in fuel.....

Using 4 or 5 litre cans is slow when it comes to refueling, I used to regularly bang nearly 100l of diesel into my range rover (it had long range tanks fitted) out of 20l drums as fast as I could pour it, doing the same with 5l at a time would have taken forever (and had everybody walking past seeing what was going on).

If you are worried about lifting the cans you can easily make yourself a transfer pump using the petrol pump from an injection car along with some wire (either fit a fag lighter plug connection or crocodile clips or the vehicles battery) 2 pipes 1 into the vehicle tank and 1 out of the can, simple and quick.

Good point on the weight aspect. What struck me watching that film was why mad max was driving a gas guzzling muscle car complete with sticky out supercharger in a post apocalyptic world where all the oil has run out  should have been at the very least a hybrid and probably more likely a bike or shank's pony

Because the interceptor is just cool :D I'de have it as my daily drive now even given our fuel prices (I wouldn't even convert it to run on LPG - for the first month)..You are right though, having had experiance of how much fuel you can hammer through with the 6 cylinder version of the Falcon its based on its not the best choice when petrol is hard to find.

Max does have something drawn (I think) by camels when he gets to Bartertown in MM3.

As a lighter aside anyone remember the beer? advert with a voice over that goes something like "Take the last thing that runs" as you see them going past an assortment of road warrior type vehicles...then getting into an icecream van
