One of my preps is to keep a fuel store for my open fire. I used 5 wooden pallets to build a log store. Logs burn quickly and coal burns hotter and longer, so as soon as we don't need the fire as much in the spring, I will start refilling the store with bags of coal. This setup can keep 56 bags of logs, which in my house is 56 nights if times get tough. I estimate that with coal it would be double that. I keep it away from the house and away from prying eyes, but is quite a nifty little setup and does exactly what I need it to.

Buying coal buy the bag is an expensive way of doing it, its cheaper to get a ton delivered loose, from memory bags filled off the wagon are either 25 or 50kg, from the petrol station etc they're about 10 or 15kg and twice the price!

I get it delivered in bags more out of handiness than anything, because there is no vehicle access where I keep it. Also if needs be, the Wife can nip over and grab some if I'm not around. I'm new to prepping really and wife tolerates me (just about) but where I live, our water supply tends to be quite vulnerable to freezing and bursting, power cuts and the weather can be quite adverse. So I try to prep for these situations more than zombie invasion etc.
