Been busy with life in general and not lurking about the boards or giving prepping much thought recently. So I am preparing by refocussing on the subject again!
I have been busy with our Labrador pup which we got in the summer, training and generally looking after him. He is 7 months old now and he still takes up a lot of time - its true, having a puppy is like having a child all over again! A job opportunity came up for me to leave being a teaching assistant and set up and run the breakfast and afterschool club at the school I work at. That tied in perfectly with getting a dog as that means I am home for a large chunk of the day which is good for a dog - most dogs are pretty social and won't do well left for long periods of time alone so this was perfect timing. My children are at home early mornings and late afternoons and then I am at home in the middle. Perfect so he is only on his own for about 2 hours max. Another reason for being absent from here, is my eldest is doing her GCSE mocks so as you can imagine she is of the age where it can get interesting from a parenting angle - that too has been taking up a considerable amount of my time. Those of you who have been there, done that, got the t shirt and battle scars, will know what I mean!
All this mean that I have discovered that taking a break from focussing on being prepared is good, as when you think about it again, you can do so with fresh eyes and a clear head. Also taking a pause in worrying about what "might happen if" or "have I got enough to see me through x, y or z" means that you remember all the other stuff in life which is important too. So now I have broken up for the Christmas hols, I am taking stock of my food stocks, toiletries and first aid, ensuring winter weather preps are all fine, and I am going to plan food production for next year properly so make the best use of my allotment, which I haven't done so far. This year I aim to use all the available growing space but I need to plan it out rather than just "wing it" as I have been doing so far. Now I have time off in the middle of the day, I can go down there with the dog, combining one of his walks with what I need to do! I also need to prep for being a dog owner too as that adds another dimension to your preps as has been mentioned in other threads on here which I am going to re-read. Happy prepping all!

Hi again Pingu
It sounds like it was a combination of circumstances that was right for you and your whole family - and you were able to go for the new circumstances, which is great. If you'd been chasing your tail, and not prepped, it might have been much more difficult - so good for you all round

Re: Getting back into thinking about prepping
As the others have already said, it is good to take a step back. I used to be full-on regarding preps. Now we hold a level of supplies we are comfy with, far more equipment than we can use, and a calmness that comes with age. Yesterday we had a burst water main out here. No water for 10 hours. No problem, we have stored water. I let the young couple next door have 5 gallons, as they have a newborn baby. Told him to keep the barrel and keep it full. Simple thing.
Good luck with getting back into the prepping.
