Today my Daughter got paid. She tried to draw cash from the ATM our Co Op. It swallowed her card!!!
Well Barclays were brilliant. New card on the way in 2 minutes. Brilliant service.
What if she had no cash on hand ?Fortunately I do. I am in the position that I have always been paid cash. ( butchery tradition), and my bike repair business is cash also. My Brother , who works for himself also likes cash. You know where you are. In my experience, folks who deal in cash have little debt. Cash is King. End of.
Cash!!!
Re: Cash!!!
i have to agree , most of my working life i have been paid in cash , the job i`m in know insists on bacs . my money after the bills are paid gets drawn out and put to one side .
YES i walked away mid sentence , you were boring me to death and my survival instincts kick in .
Re: Cash!!!
I'm using cash as long as we can do, trouble is even if you have cash, a power cut or glitch in the banking system renders an awful lot of shops unable to trade with most people in an instant, the problem is people have been taken out of the equation in so many fields to the extent that there is no coping when things go wrong, sure they may get fixed but the disruption can be tremendous.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Re: Cash!!!
The biggest problems with modern shops is the reliance on computers, even the small corner shops often have computerised tills liked into back office ordering.
I understand that some supermarkets have back up generators to keep running in the event of a power cut, so they can continue to trade, the problem will be the ordering and delivery. Just in time is not just the supermarket but the warehouse as well.
So even if you have cash you can still have problems.

Re: Cash!!!
That's what I was trying to put my finger on, and why we have prepared the essentials... if you live day to day a minor disruption to the system means you're stuck even if you have the money, better to have supplies for a week or so down to bread making and dried/long life milk, chances are normality will return, though as we know worst case scenario and cash will still be useless.Hamradioop wrote:

Re: Cash!!!
I was cash only until I wanted a mortgage, then I had problems... Had to use a bank account and credit card for a year to create a paper trail.
My aim now is to be as self sufficient as possible, my chicken setup is complete and now have lots of compost rotting away so the next plan is to start growing vegetables and medicinal plants/herbs. In a real SHTF scenario I have just about enough canned food for me and the misses to last a month. A month longer than the unprepared

Always carry cash on you, I keep £100, folded and ironed flat in my wallet.

Started to watch Falling Skies recently, post-apocalypse because of alien invasion, its quite good. The protagonist finds cash really useful at one spot, as he's on a trek home after being tortured by the baddies - he uses it for his fire one evening
