Got my dehydrator for Christmas/Yule and today I am attempting to make bouillon powder from my turkey stock that I made by boiling the turkey bones and bits with a carrot, onion, celery, peppercorns and bay leaves greatly reduced down, removed the fat from the top yesterday, reduced it down some more and left it to set into a jelly overnight last night. So far so good!! Smells lovely so I hope my first attempt at dehydrating is a success.
update: I am happy to report that I have a quarter jar (1lb size) of bouillon powder dried, ground up into powder! Tastes lovely in a mug of hot water and dissolved completely! I am combining my frozen bags of chicken stock from the freezer to repeat the process before moving on to cherries, peach slices and mango chunks.
What are you dehydrating?

Re: What are you dehydrating?
I have just dehydrated carrots, parsnips and celery and put them in a kilner clip top style jar. (You know the ones with the orange rubber seal that you prise into place with a clip.) I will add some onions and sweet potatoe next then that is my Soup/Stew mix ready to store and use. I also added some dried herbs to it. I figured I could make some just add water type of meals. The water that I use to soak them to rehydrate them will be used as stock for said stew or soup. Not sure how long they will keep but its best to discover that now rather than in a crisis situation! Either way I have some good food for when money is tight!

Sounds yummy!!! Do you blanch before dehydrating them?
Just done strawberries, kiwi, banana and cherries. The flavours are so much stronger I can't stop eating

I haven't but I think I probably should have blanched them. And yes the flavours are so strong, i chewed on a bit of dried celery and wow the flavour hit was intense, almost salty. Common sense when you take out the water you concentrate the flavour but I never realised how amazing it would be!

The flavour is amazing, can't get my head around strawberries being soooo sweet! I can't normally eat kiwi fruit as the little hairs irritate my throat but I am embarrassed to say, I've eaten a whole tray of dehydrated slices
This could become addictive, I think I should start on the veg before I gain too much weight lol

Liking the bouillon powder idea - gonna give it a go- tend to make my own stocks anyway using a pressure cooker often buy chicken wings to boost flavour.
Re: What are you dehydrating?
The flavour is fantastic and worth the effort to do, good luck

Re: What are you dehydrating?
Santa got me a dehydrator for Crimbo and I've been doing loads of stuff, mushrooms, leeks, onions and chillies for veg, pineapple (a bit overdone to be honest but edible), apples, pears and bananas. The bananas weren't the best but I'll have another shot. I'm keeping it simple for now, not tried any meat yet but best of all, Mrs Deeps is quite into it, she still mocks me for my torches and stuff but she's starting to get with the programme a wee bit. She's still a fair way off from the camo bandana.

I know that feeling so well lol, I too got one for Crimbo and so far I've only done meat 2 lots of pork jerky and one lot of beef, she really liked the beef so she's pushing me to do some more, but I've got to do some jerk chicken first .Mrs Deeps is quite into it, she still mocks me for my torches and stuff but she's starting to get with the programme a wee bit
