Local mapping

Post by Wonderer »

Hi I've just started local mapping of areas surrounding me (I'm bugging in), I've mapped usual places shops, pharmacists, camping shops, you get my drift.

Any other ideas of things I could list ?, this would help me and others. Hopefully if this is something you haven't thought of yet it helped.thanks,

One other thought I had good and bad is looking at sharing my ideas my stashes if anything where to happen to me others could use them or join me in the event of TSHTF. Let me know what you think.

How about high ground or vantage points? Sometimes it's good to know a few places you could go to or scale to be able to see what's going on in the distance. For me I know a couple of buildings nearby with external ladders that could be used if absolutely necessary.
Public buildings like Hospitals with A&E, Military Barracks, Manned Police Stations. It'd be a very specific set of circumstances that'd send you fleeing towards any one of them, but it doesn't hurt to have a few markings on a map just in case.

In terms of sharing your stashes, not sure. It could lead to you running out of supplies yourself, and would depend entirely on the relationship you had with the other people. Don't forget if you ever fell out, you'd have to either get to them all first, or move them!

No problem, always best to check the locations yourself, as you can't account for things like trees or buildings and field of view.

With things like Hospitals, Barracks etc I agree, in most cases they'll be mobbed and you'll want to avoid them...which is another reason to map them for me!

me personally when the SHTF I wont be worried about the nearest shops/doctors/chemist/police for two reasons:

1) I should hopefully have everything I need at my house which will be my Bug in Location
2) If I do bug out I'm heading into the woods, while the sheeple are looting etc. I will have 2 guns and a fully stocked BOB so will be living on snared/shot animals :D

Hey good to know your prepared, wouldn't you map your area of woodland ? water holes snare placings, just out of interest. Theirs 5 in my fam I've got plenty of supplies but they never last long, I'm not in a city but then again im not in countryside, I wish I where in the country.also I need medication as I'm partially disabled stocking up on everything is impossible although growing at home is viable
