This week I am still stockpiling medicine for SHTF, I now have a good supply of antibiotics (amoxicillin, erythromycin and lymecycline). 100 paracetamol and 50 ibuprofen, next step is to source some corticosteroids.
Also need to get a few new dressings for the first aid box, and order some torches, completely forgot to get a stash of those

Not doing much today as the 100MPH winds means all ferries to Orkney mainland are cancelled so just sat here feeling smug that if anything goes wrong I'm covered, emergency lighting, cooker, water, food, power, heating all ready and at hand.

Today I finally moved the chooks to their new coop and got them settled in -took ages for them how to work out getting to bed,but I wanted them to figure it out for themselves.I have to say that they made me chuckle! Interestingly, jansman, its a cocoon one, which we also decided was cheaper tham building one - which we've always done before (albeit to house more chooks than we have now).I will say that I find the run too little, but they will go out into the garden anyhows. And I think the bolts will need upgrading -but other than that,I'm quite impressed so far.
Then I dug over the old run.Shame its in such a shady place as the soil will be well fertilised.
Now I need to work out the sort of feeder I'll need to keep the pellets dry,not get knocked over, and be moveable because of rats...I'm thinking either small trough or a feeder attached to the wire under the house -although I'm not convinced it wouldn't get wet in driving rain.

Waterbaby: You thought about something like this
Can't be knocked over, easy to move and will keep the feed dry (unless you get horizontal rain )
Decaff: Heres to a speedy recovery for your SOP.... And I hope he doesn't drive you too crazy by being underfoot

Forge,I may end up getting one like that.Previously they had a feeder hung up,but without a lid as it was under permanent cover. It couldn't be suspended in the set up they're in now,as there isn't the height but I could sit it on the floor,or I could even construct a moveable tripod,or similar,to suspend it from.Mmmm-food for thought there!
I am also going to need to cover the window in the new house,I suspect. It occurred to me that the cockerel may start crowing a bit too early otherwise .I may go for shutters (and curtains....)
Anyone got any ideas of use for a shady rooty area thats well fertilised? Anything at all useful I could grow?

Raspberry canes-get 'em in now. They do not mind shade. Perpetual spinach too (in the Spring) and that had the added advantage of greenstuff for the birds, even if you don't eat it. Good weed supressant too.

Thanks jansman!
For years I've planned to get some raspberry canes and never quite got round to it.
Thats excellent news -I may now do something about it,as raspberries are well loved here but way too expensive to buy.

This week I bought myself a filleting knife, a fire starter, a Dutch Army Water Bottle and a WWII British pen knife... Slowly but surely, I'm starting :')

If you find a source for the SAIDS could you share a link please.
