Best BOB...

Post by warringtonmum88 »

Hi all :)

I took the decision to start prepping a few months ago, since then I have managed to gather items such as multi tools, water purification stuff, I have an emergency box in the house with torch, candles, high energy foods etc, I have one similar in the car and I have stocked up on tinned foods and been storing water in used pop bottles.

My next thing to do is our bug out bag, I am wondering if an army style bergen would be appropriate? Probably not in camo colours but something of a similar size etc as I have two children to pack for too.

I have been keeping an eye out on FB selling pages for bargains but to no avail so far!

I am wondering what branded bags you have, if you have a bag what have you got in there, if you are packing for other people too what have you packed for them?

I don't think there's one answer. It will depend on where you are going to, how you are going to get there, whether you have any preps pre-positioned e.g. in a holiday or relative's home, and so on.

A fully-loaded bergen is extremely heavy and bulky, as a lot of people on this forum can tell you.

SWMBO and I have a pack each, we use the toddler's day bag as a grab-bag for her, and we probably need to revise the 7-year old's bag. I am re-focussing the BOBs away from the romantic-but-wrong (for us) idea of going tactical in the woods to a more likely scenario of hotel, friend's floor, or rental and with that in mindt there is less food, but more emphasis on being able to rebuild our lives by having key documents on us.

We've packed a change of clothes including footwear and outerwear for all of us, and some food, but little in the way of shelter as I just don't see us attempting to rig a bivvy for a family of four with a 7 year old and a 2 year old.

I have a 5.11 Rush 12 http://www.amazon.co.uk/5-11-Tactical-R ... B00EKPPKC4 pricey but I tried some of the cheap stuff and its , well cheap :D , but if thats all you can afford these seem OK , http://www.tooltime.co.uk/shoppingcart/ ... kpack.html

Had a medium Alice Pack if you like that style , it was very good but the Rush has loads of compartments, etc , very pleased with it , also can be had in larger sizes

Warringtonmum88,
I just posted in the BOB section of the Equipment threads about a bag I bought my wife, and then one for myself.
It may be up your street and I'm very impresses.
Many colours also.
