when is enough

Post by unsure »

ive been sorting out the store room and rotating cans .

for those that keep a large enough stock of food in the house , at what point do you consider it enough and focus on other things .usually big ticket items like the british berkefield or solar panels . these we generally need to save a little for .

I think that's a very individual choice, based upon your own situation and personal circumstances, but for me personally, a years-worth of grocery/household/hygiene items is my cut-off point. For now!!!

That's a good lot of clobber you've got then, and a lot more than many. I guess you could ponder whether you could eke out 9 months to 12 months for some items, i.e. smaller portions of rice/pasta etc., and then build up those items where you couldn't do this to a years worth. That's what I would do.

FYI - Groupon have started selling household items. They have currently got a bulk deal on loo/kitchen roll.

Here's the link. The particular deal I mentioned isn't now available, but you can subscribe to the 'goods' daily emails and then you will get notification each day of what goodies they have.

Groupon is brilliant, I've got huge bags of soap powder stashed away, loo rolls, kitchen rolls and some food items. Another good site is www.nCrowd.co.uk who are similar to Groupon.

I'm partially self sufficient and prepping to a point that if needs be I can
become fully self sufficient. This means for me stocking a years worth of food
ect, building up a good stock of non hybrid seeds so I can increase my crops
and hopefully have plenty to live on when my stored food runs out.

It is a very good question, how much IS enough? I saw a similar question asked on an American site ( although that brought the usual ,"until I have a million rounds of ammo "etc. )
TBH I reckon we have hit the 'enough' point. There is as much grub as we can store and rotate and we certainly have enough 'kit'. We don't need any more 'stuff'.
However, as has been said already, it is a personal thing. I have always worked on the principal of shelter (the house) ,water (stored, captured and the brook over the road), food (stored, grown and gathered),fuel, (mains, stored batteries/ gas/petrol/paraffin/coal and wood).I find that keeps me grounded in reality when I get carried away! :D
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.
