Pretty much what it says on the tin.
I have a HW 35 that I've previously used for plinking and not very serious target shooting, now my needs have changed and I'd like to use my old friend for vermin..... However my eyes are over two decades older as well, so I'd like to get some inexpensive glass to help out.
So, what would you guys recommend ?

HW35 Classic gun.
Scope of around 3-9x40 covers most field situations - good mounts are a must I find parallax adjustable helpful. (PA) = The twisty bit at the end of the scope. Important to try out scopes as everyone's eyes are different.
Join airgun or weihrauch forum they often have a for sale section.
Good name = Hawke & Nikko Stirling.

Hope that helps...

Good suggestions there folks
Spot on there, I think those airmax's are to long for a springer, damn good though, recommended for live fire around these parts too, we have several Nikko Sterling, and a Hawke, good enough as some would say, because you can pay as much for them as you did your gun (and more)lightningxl wrote:Scope of around 3-9x40 covers most field situations - good mounts are a must I find parallax adjustable helpful. I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Re: Suggestions for budget air rifle scope?
I've had it a long time, Brother and I bought it from Trapshot of Lye...... Well, Dad bought it as we were both under 18 at the timelightningxl wrote:HW35 Classic gun.

Thats what I wanted to know.... Now, what does that mean
Heres the problem, there is nothing like a decent gun shop anywhere around hereImportant to try out scopes as everyone's eyes are different.
Without having to make a special trip I'm likely to have to resort to remote purchasing.
Looks like I can get something workable for 30ish notes ?
Any advice on first starting to use springer thats been out of service for a long time ?

How about this this, close to your budget:

I've got the following scope, a bit more than the above, but a decent scope:

3-9x40mm?
3-9 is the magnification zoom range.
40mm is the diameter of the objective lens (furthest from eye)
its size determines light gathering properties.

How about one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=6-24x50&_udhi=30
Re: Suggestions for budget air rifle scope?
Personally I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. They are cheap generic Chinese copies with no guarantee as to the quality of the optics.Bad Wombat wrote:How about one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=6-24x50&_udhi=30
I had something similar included free of charge with a crossbow and they were just impossible to zero in and went in the bin.
I would suggest sticking to known brand for this type of thing, as others have said, Hawke and Nikko Sterling are both good quality, low cost scopes which you can rely on.
