S-6 respirator

Post by Attack Warning Red »

My S-6 respirator came today. I'm a bit of a collector of gas masks and NBC kit, and this can join my four Soviet gas masks. The S-6 is a British respirator used in the 1960s-1980s, before it was superseded by the S-10. I managed to get a mint-condition unused one from 1987, so grabbed it as quick as I could, and it's a lovely piece.

AWR, you're the first person I've ever met who collects gasmasks

I use a respirator mask for my work sometimes. It`s a modern one though! :)
Sometimes I work with chemicals that give off fumes when heated, I hate wearing it though as I find it restrictive. but needs must.

Even the S10s have been superceeded now, so our 6 will stay wrapped up for now.

Problem with S6s is that you need to remove them to drink, with the S10 they have a straw and valve and a water bottle attachment.

Ebay is good, but they can be expensive, especially at the moment I should guess.

Nice respirator. I've always had a soft spot for the S6; reminds me of the film 'Who dares wins' with Lewis Collins.

The freaking gas mask!!! I swear if anyone came towards me wearing one of those I would faint dead away.

I must have some residual memories from a film that I watched when I was younger that terrified me - or maybe an episode of Dr Who...

It does sound a bit "Darth Vader" when they are on, the "specials" have tinted lenses as well.

I guess that when the check points come out and fully kitted NBC troops are manning them you will be a total wreck, imagine this guy coming towards you with a rifle pointed at your head as well

Why would I need to be anywhere near a check point?
