Putting Winter Car Kit to the test!

Living in the SW we don't get a lot of snow, so this morning we went in search of it on Dartmoor! Beautiful up there and covered in snow. Decided to put a few things in the old Winter Car Kit to the test - firstly a couple of 'Hot Cans' - self heating meals (Beanz & Balls for those interested). Complete waste of money - should be called 'Luke Warm Cans' at best! Wouldn't buy again - be much better with a rat pack self-heating meal I reckon! Ditto self-heating drinks - the old methods are better methods methinks!

As to the really important stuff - we started spinning on the skid-pan of a corner up there. Now I did have my folding shovel with us and I'm sure I could have got us out - but as a 4X4 passed at that moment, stopped and offered a tow - I was glad of my tow rope in the back. Has made me think it would be a good idea to take some salt / grit if going up again! Nothing quite compares with putting stuff to the test!

Always good to put things to the test... have a sleeping bag in the car - what else do people carry for winter.

i got that brukit. I haven't tested it in the car but carry cous cous, noodles, coffee and water.

I have a car kettle it draws 180w and when testing it i flattened the car battery trying to boil a cup of water on the drive (180w draw) so its a car running only device IME....

if the car is running and i have fuel i will use it............


however if the car is dead or low fuel i have the £5 china brukit stove minius the wind shield and pot

and as the ultimate fall back there is a hexi stove and tablets in there too........

Looks good but I wanted something I can use inside the car... so when I'm stuck in a snow-jammed traffic jam on Haldon, or in the pouring wind / rain I won't need to brave the elements! I do have a gas canister camping stove for other times tho!
