Layer your clothing!!! You'll definitely want clothing that dries quick, is hardwearing and comfortable.

Cotton is nt the best route to go down but look at all the different types of walking trousers available from the cheapest to the expensive - everything oil based will mostly be hydrophobic as well, meaning that when its wet it wants to get dry - fast!

Warm layers dont have to be thick jumpers, look at the various types of cheap micro fleeces for sale, great for layering!

Anything waterproof is also windproof... just make sure that its breathable! And dont forget the extremities, at least two pairs of gloves - one pair to wear and one pair to dry out!!

well made and proper combat trousers like the current 95's are ideal for most situtations! light, quick drying, and rather warm too!! I've got 3 of normal forest style, desert (more for lounging around the house/car ;) ) and 2 pairs of black combats, same material as normal 95's!

I haven't got my hands on the new ones yet, but the old ones were pretty cruddy and cheap, the early 80's stuff and the OG kit before that was a lot better, but heavier.

Combat gear is very good in a combat situation, wearing it on the streets post SHTF is going to bring down problems for the wearer unless authorised to wear it.

i dunno about that, think about how many people wear combats day to day, whether for work or just as an item of clothing, of the SHTF, then alot of those people will probably be all over combats rather than jeans or shorts for eg

And most stick out like a belisha beacon, in a post SHTF situation they do get avoided unless they are non-denominational, ie not from the country you are in.

There are some very good posts around the net from time of Bosnia and the Serbs etc, the "civvies" never wore combats that would or could be mistaken for "uniform" as they could be seen as a legit target.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. Much appreciated. Looks like some nice cotton combats are the order of the day, but I'm also off to buy some comfy joggers and waterproofs this weekend.

Covering all bases... Just in case.
