I'm looking at investing in a CB radio, and creating a 'net' between me and the others in my clan in the nearby area.
Looking at investing some money into a good antenna and placing it on the roof, i live on a hill so hopefull should give me good coms in the area, what do you reckon?

Re: CB radio
Yes, I reckon we need to give this some serious thought as to setting up comms between us. I remember us Yorks preppers had some discussion about this. I'll revisit the thread....

Re: CB radio
i think if you've got the money its a perfect way of keeping in touch, before and after TSHTF.
Only major downside is its un-crypted, so anyone and everyone can listen to what your saying... so it might be a case for good old fashioned code words / names!!!

Re: CB radio
With that sort of thing in mind, I sent for my amateur license a week ago. A CB is a much cheaper option though, and readily available to everyone.
Given a multistandard rig (AM's good) and a few add ons, you can get a fair distance. Post shtf of course.

Re: CB radio
I/BP,
Please can you give us a breakdown of kit and cost? And maybe recommend brands? Thanks.

Re: CB radio
standard Cb radio starts from £50 upwards. this is the most basic, i would trawl through the net and see if you can find a bargain... just make sure the base unit can be modded and added to... i'm looking at buying a semi-cheap antenna (looking at no less than 30 quid) to throw up on my roof which will expand my range largely!
Remember 2 main things which make a radio set up are a good base unit and a brilliant antenna.
Just for coms newbies:
An antenna recieves and transmitts
An arial only recieves (like your car cd player or tv)
