Bug Out vest?

The one problem with this type of vest webbing is you wouldn't be able to carry a large Bergan or Rucksack. Like you would with this:

I'm surprised none of the maufacturers don't make either type in Non-Camouflage Colours. Especially for the hill walkers and the like.

I have the same thoughts as you. If I put my rucksack down and go down to a stream to fetch water, or go and dig a 9" square hole, I still want to have the bare minimum on my person.

Why do think you cannot wear a Bergen?
Also all the stuff available in camo is available in other colours (usually olive green, coyote brown or Black - you're spoilt for choice)

As an aside I would personally avoid like the plague anything by Kombat or Web-tex for arduous use.

The reason you cannot carry a Bergan with Chest Webbing is that the Straps of the Bergan will cover the Top set of Pouches. And it would be uncomfortable to do so.

Chest Webbing was designed for Non Combat Roles like Drivers and Engineers. Where Belt Webbing was inconvenient for jumping out of vehicles frequently or working at assembling a Bridge where it can get in the way. If you are driving a Vehicle, doing so with normal webbing is unsafe, as you are not sitting in the seat properly. So you would have to take it off. Then if you get into a Firefight you have to put in on before you can start fighting back! But with Chest Webbing you can wear it whilst driving or working because it isn't in the way and you are combat ready!

I do go Hill Walking fairly regularly. Now being ex forces, I would prefer to wear Belt Webbing than carry a Rucksack, as it's easier to get stuff out. As you have stop to take the Rucksack off to do so. Plus it's easier to carry webbing than a rucksack.

However I wouldn't want to carry a Black or camouflaged rucksack or webbing because you can't be seen if you have an accident! That is why I think people like Blacks and Go Outdoors are missing a trick by not offering good quality Chest or Belt Webbing as an alternative to Rucksacks in Bright Colours! Camouflaged Kit doesn't go well with my Gucci Bright Red Bergan Waterproof Jacket.

I've considered wearing a webbing belt with a respirator 'bag' on it for bits and bobs when out walking the dogs but the knowledge that I'll look like a complete weirdo has put me off it. Also it would clash with my Red Berghaus fouly jacket too.

Its a good idea though the 'civvy' chest webbing. There would probably be a market for day walking and stuff like that. Maybe see you on Dragons Den sometime mate.

Unfortunately I don't have room under my shirt for a vest that's beer gut shaped.

Ah , that'll mean an additional market for "tailored " shirts to accompany the beer gut vests . I remember a similar conversation on a photography theme where it was suggested that rather than camera bags looking like , well , camera bags , all nice , pretty and steal me sort of things they should look more like a tesco carrier bag.

I will chime in here on this one.

Being ex forces I like the utility of vests or webbing.

We have included vests into our preps for personal opinions really.

The vests are for us the carrier of the must have with you items. Along with avhydration bladder. We then have 50l bags to carry the rest of the get home or get to safety types of stuff.

To us it is a layered approach to our gear.

I am also an advocate of the greyman approach. Yet the vests and packs for us are meant for situations where things have really went to pot. Situations where survival is of optimal importance. Where having a rugged carry of the essential items is paramount. In this type of situation wevwould not be trying to blend in with the crowd. We would be purposefully staying away from people. Most likely only moving at night and staying out of sight by day. With the vests and packs welfare tailored the contents to provide a bit more than a 72 hour setup. More like a week at at a push. Once again just due to personal preference and opinion. Three days us cool yet being a believer in Murphy's Law. Would rather be set up for a bit longer just to be sure.
