I live in a rural, wooded area and have a history of the outdoors and currently have a smallholding with my wife and son who are also practically minded.
Our community is great because we all have something to bring to the table in terms of skills and knowledge of a range of fields. As far as I'm concerned we're prepping not just for "the apolcalypse" but also for more mundane situations, such as power cuts or floods. Sure headline grabbing disasters are a concern but if the village is cut off for a few days, as ours has been numerous times, that's a more immediate and present situation to prep for. My background is in the countryside and Scouting - "Be Prepared" and all that - and the people I've been fortunate enough to meet along the way have taught me a lot, maybe most importantly the value of a multi faceted team - although being able to survive on your own is also a must.
Anyway, that's just a few thoughts. I'm looking forward to learning much from you guys and hopefully I'll be able to share some useful things from my own experiences. Thanks!
