What have you spent?

Might be a subject you don't like to think about but if you're happy to talk about it, I'm curious as to what you think you've spent on your prepping?

The trick is buying things you need or want, for instance I don't have a generator... power cuts in the city are few and far between, also short lived whan they do occur "what about SHTF or EMP? I hear you cry", a generator would make us a target Sure I'd like one, I'd like to have room for one, you get the picture, a financial estimate of what I spend on prepping would encompass things bought almost entirely for fun, even the £200+ dehydrator was more because we wanted to make jerky and other stuff
I could say that over the years we have spent thousands for certain on prepping related things, but only a couple of hundred on items that have seen no actual usage.

at this moment in time , i`d rather not think about it lol what i do know and will share is that the amount in total for everything thats prep related be it food or gear , if i had it in one lump then i could have bought a newer car .or had a nice few weeks in the sun .

Well I suppose hundreds of pounds, but then again very little. I've spent hundreds on food, but then we've eaten it bit at a time and replaced it. (sometimes eaten a lot, but then I do prep for personel hiccups), so really that's not money lost. Loads on tents, sleeping bags, camping gear but we use that too and would have it even if I didn't prep. Loads on tools but we use them anyway, We have a generator but bought it before I discovered I was a prepper as we needed it anyway. See where this is going, prepping for most of us is about a life style for today with one eye on tomorrow. I agree with Plymtom, buy what you can use or you need anyway but with prepping in mind you might choose a lighter or better quality item or whatever will suit your prepping needs as well as everyday.

We live an outdoors lifestyle anyway, so the tents, boots, sleeping bags, rucksacks, tarps, ponchos, toches, knives, firesteels, etc all get used.

Candles, lamp oil - 50€, but it gets rotated through and used

Books - 100€

Food stock - maybe 500€ tied up in food, but apart from the glut of kidney beans , it all gets eated eventually

The only thing I can think of is £20 for a sleeping bag for the car and that was only so that I could leave it in the back of the car the other preps are all food or skills preps which I have learnt from friends or the internet or books so cost nothing or goes on the birthday/christmas list so again doesn't cost anything. Though there are two things I would love to spend out on and they are---- life saver water filters and a dehydrator but I can make a filter and use solar power to dehydrate some food stuff so not essential just want

Ive just started prepping over the last few months food wise, but again like others say it will be used too and stock rotated. We have tents and camping equipment already, ive spent very little on a few little items added to GHB etc, which I bought new too, and a organiser pouch too to move from one bag to another. I try to buy extra canned food and packets when shopping anyway so then you don't notice what you've spent.

Its funny, I've spent far too much, but yet not nearly enough.

Like a lot of others have said, probably very little that I wouldn't have, I've got a load of camping/walking gear and various other stuff that I either did have or would have got. The only thing I can think of are a couple of books, some 25L water containers and a Sawyer filter that I probably wouldn't have. I do keep more food than I did but 99% of it is stuff we use regularly anyway. I probably have spent more than I realise, getting extra bits and bobs but not as much as I would have liked on 'toys'.

A good question though, makes you think about it.
