Is it worth doing a loft conversion?

I've been thinking about my lack of storage and what I can do about it. I live in anew build with minimal storage and a wife who is not on the same page as me about a need for us to prep. I've been thinking about putting in a raised loft floor but know it will cost quite a bit. My question being is it worth the expense? Ideally I want to put food stores as well as other things up there but due to the variations in temperature this will affect the food. I'm not DIY savvy so not sure if it's possible to insulate the roof to keep the temperature more stable? What about ventilation? Does anyone know about this and could offer advice?

Lofts as you say suffer from high summer and very low winter temperatures. Depending on what you want to store up there it may be easier to construct a very well insulated container to put your gear into rather than try to insulate the whole loft? Modern buildings tend to be done with the absolute minimum amount of wood you can get away with for ceilings etc so without adding extra support its not a good idea to put a lot of weight up there.

Yip as said above , remember that if you sqush the insulation in the loft down it will lose heat , try and use the loft insulatuon spacers which i wouldnt trust or 3x2 across the trussess depending on layout, just rember that the loading of lofts in new builds are a lot less than old properties

Yeah my insulation is pretty thick so was looking at loft spacers to lift the boards. From what I've read they say you can have 50kg/m2. But from what you guys are saying that might not be right. Might have to find a garage for rent/sale near by to store food/gear.

If it is simply for storage, you might be cheaper looking elsewhere e.g. for dead space under the stairway or under the floor, and as you say, the loft has more issues with temperature exposure.
