Experimented with eating a few dandelion leaves (after I had washed them). They were bitter  . Decided to dehydrate the two dandelion heads and use the dried leaves in fruit smoothies and the like as a nutrient boost. The flowers were ok to eat though.

If I was to create a wild salad I would probably only use dandelions as a small part of the meal IMHO.
It was bitter. Really bitter

I do want to try juicing stinging nettles at some point this spring though.

This week I've been working on the allotment (still new at growing so starting small). I've also started taking inventory of what I actually have and getting an idea of what my priorities should be.

Food stores are a must but need to come up with a plan for storage as I have limited space.

Water is sorted for the short term (large water butt and a way to filter and boil it easily, plus big lake 5min walk away).

Defensive is a bit lacking but working on that.

Medical is well sorted and probably over prepped if there is such a thing :D

I have loads of books and a variety of equipment but I need to break it down to smaller plans of action. It's a bit hard when the other half isn't really on board and just rolls her eyes when ever I try and talk about it. At least my son is showing an interest.
Welcome to my world bro  Stick with it, Missus Deeps has softened on some stuff, especially the help on the allotment and the idea that there is no harm in keeping some stuff in Casa Deeps instead of the supermarket shelves. I've not had to invest in a 'pour femme' set of zombie slaying gear yet but I do get the rolling eyes and tuts from time to time. Good luck amigo.

Oh I get the same from Mr Me. All he ever says is that we don't live far from town so if snow/floods occur he'll just walk. But town is on an estuary. So it'll be flooded too. So no supermarket supplies. Difficult to get him to see the bigger picture so I just keep squirrelling things away!

This week I am going fishing. No great shakes there. I have been working very hard, and have not fished in months (a passion of mine). If I had to put food on the table I would have no problem( fish wise). I do think that leisure activity is important for mental well being. Very important.
Got a load of firewood to collect also.

You are quite correct Jansman we all need to do something to relax and take the time to smell the roses. Fishing with a rod gives you time to reflect and relax and just chill. The time it becomes hectic is when you have to land your fish :D

My son and I went fishing for the first time last month. The only thing we caught was frostbite. I don't see it being a way of survival for me at the moment. At least we have a lot of rabbits around if we ever needed food.

Starting another fasting experience. Found getting into this one much easier than the last attempt. Hoping that the more that i work on this the better my long term digestive health will become.

My 4 25L 'barrels' have arrived, they've had a wash and are waiting to be filled up with water and stuck away. In the meantime, the next batch of jerky will be getting marinated. Also bought some bits and bobs from a pound shop yesterday, I strongly resisted the urge to buy more head torches but got some more cable ties, you can't have enough and they don't exactly go 'off'.

Its all go at Casa Deeps. ;)
