Re: LED back up / emergency lighting...
yes from lidl, cut the transformer off and wired it to a SLA battery. My missus was panicking getting out candles, as I had to retrieve the LED Tape and Battery from storage. When I sat down to explain it all she said well you can look after the whole street then. She was promptly informed that that was not going to happen and she must keep quiet about my equipment.

Old post but interesting, I like the idea of the led strip lighting, we will be putting a shed up this year, and I think they would be great for in there too, as we wont be running electric to it, or I don't think we will. Other sources of lighting if it happened that we had no electric in the home, would be camping lamps, candles in glass tea light holders or jar. I have also thought of getting some solar lights, I normally have only used these outside, but I think theyd work too inside if the solar panel was getting enough light from outside, eg on the window ledge.

I am using Lithium and Lead Acid batteries to power small 12v LED bulbs and clip on LED lights.
I make up my own battery packs, they can be charged with a Lithium battery charger, the sort used by the hobby airplane people.
I also am going to invest in a Honda Eu20is which I can put in a trolley box and bring to a secluded area for charging up my cells.
Lithium charges much faster than Lead Acid and is much more portable which means you can carry it around to charge it easier, put it in your bag and go do down the library and charge it there.

Just to alert others if your going to play with Lithium cells be-careful LIPO cells are foil wrapped Roman candles / incendiaries If overcharged / pierced they will burn very violently
(* ive been stripping some lipo packs recently)

Were the lipos from anything tool wise? Just wondering which have built in low voltage cut outs, I need to repower my senco drywalling screwgun, but like the idea of using lipos for the weight saving and higher capacity.

Hello.
I use Lithium Iron Phosphate cells, aka LIFePo4, much much safer than LiPo!!
I agree, LiPo is asking for trouble.
