@ Brambles, Pingu and all you other Allotmenteers. Make sure your shed supplies are in something rodent-proof.
I've been clearing out my shed and have suffered a lot of rodent damage, I've had a towel and several other cloth items chewed through and 'liquid' stained...... The little sods even gnawed the lid off of my bottle of linseed oil :x

Preach brother ! Mrs Deeps had a mouse in her shed (not kitchen ;) ) which even made a fair dent in her kneeling mat amongst other stuff. I wasn't allowed to kill it either so I expect our paths shall cross again. We've now put shelving in, she just used to throw stuff in the shed :x

I've already had an invasion of the little barstewards over the winter. The one remaining fleece tunnel I had resembles lace now

All the small stuff is already in rodent proof tubs and tins. I will need something a bit bigger for the back up box.

I'd go with something like a big ammo box, theres loads of them out there so they're nothing out of the ordinary and you can either hide it or chain it up to stop it 'wandering'

A quick search on Ebay found This

My thoughts exactly, there's a secondhand shop in town sells them for about £20

Went out and purchased 4 blue 25 litre polyethylene water cans. This will store enough water for about 2 weeks. I filled them up and stored them in my shed where it is cool and protected from the sun. I also added about a teaspoon of bleach to each can to protect the water from any bacteria. I can safely store this water indefinitely, however, I will probably rotate it out about every 6-12 months.

Exactly what I do Nate66. It is cheap to do, and the MOST vital element for survival. We have had water issues in the past, and that stored water helped brilliantly.

Never had a problem with the water around here, however, it would not take much to contaminate the local treatment plants or surrounding aquifers as the water table is so shallow. I would prefer to store more water, but space is an issue. I may go out and purchase 4 more containers which would push our supply to about a month which would give more than ample time to find an alternative source. Enough pressure with other things without having the pressure of finding clean water.

Good tip about the bleach, coincidentally I've just bought 4 blue 25L water containers as well. They've been washed out and filled and stowed away. I've got other bottles and a couple of smaller water containers as well (my new total is about 180L or so). A wee drop of bleach will be going in next time I refill the containers.

Thanks for the reminder, bought some more mouse traps just in case. Also added some threads and needles to bob, limited supply of clothing may mean more mending needed, have a good supply for home already. Also added good nail scissors as hands and feet will need looking after and a bottle of surgical
spirit for blisters and "harding" feet if excess walking required.

Got a gardening fork in Tescos for £3.50, not the strongest but handy to have another one, just in case someone offers to help
