I filled them up and stored them in my shed where it is cool and protected from the sun. I also added about a teaspoon of bleach to each can to protect the water from any bacteria. I can safely store this water indefinitely, however, I will probably rotate it out about every 6-12 months.
Good tip about the bleach, coincidentally I've just bought 4 blue 25L water containers as well. They've been washed out and filled and stowed away. I've got other bottles and a couple of smaller water containers as well (my new total is about 180L or so). A wee drop of bleach will be going in next time I refill the containers.
No problem, just be careful with the bleach. A little goes a long way, also ensure it is plain bleach, not scented or anything.

Once again low on money as I wait for my pay to come in, but as I have lentils, rice and a few tins put aside I will be ok. Am sprouting the lentils to make a crop for a stir fry to put in the rice. Got frozen veggies to add to it too. My air popcorn will make the breakfast cereal.

So the sprouters, jars and popcorn maker are coming in to their own.

Well its been a while since I did anything at all prep related. After splitting up with my girlfriend of 7 years back in August, then spending up until the beginning of March on a matress on my sisters living room floor, she has a one bedroom flat that is more like a rabbit hutch. I now have my own flat (rented) I'm back on it and slowly, very very slowly beginning to stock up on tinned food, rice and pasta. My wage is terrible, not where I thought I would be at 30. Although I have an interview in a few weeks for a prison officers job.

As Mister Tesco says, "every little helps". Good luck with it all, hope you get the job.

Ouch, Decaff, very glad to hear MrDecaff has been cleared of cancer, best of wishes to you both.

I've been sort of prepping - I was away in Belgium for a couple of days, and I wanted to take a few preps with me just-in-case ... the only thing I actually used was the seatbelt cutter, so I could open up the packet of sliced cheese   and since this was the worst emergency, you can tell things went very smoothly :)

Thanks Nate66 and thanks Deeps. My ex didn't understand prepping at all. She thought is was bonkers. I would have thought that after me having multiple foot and ankle surgeries and a fractured spine all within 4 years, she would have got it a bit more, as we were living on the preps that I had.

Not a problem mate. A lot of people don't understand that stocking the cupboard = prepping. Whether you are doing it to last the week or doing it to last a year. There are many types of prepping. I have been there mate and you will be amazed at how far you can go on a few tins of beans and soups. It isn't a Christmas dinner my no means, but it will keep you going as long as you have a positive attitude to go with it. Give me a shout if you need anything and I will do my best to help if I can.

thank you Nate66. i really do appreciate the words of encouragement it really does mean a lot. It has been really hard , but i can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am in a much better place than i thought i would be. The biggest battle has been not letting the Bipolar take a hold and battling the depression from it all. I am finally a lot happier than i have been for a long time.
