I've been sort of prepping - I was away in Belgium for a couple of days, and I wanted to take a few preps with me just-in-case ... the only thing I actually used was the seatbelt cutter, so I could open up the packet of sliced cheese   and since this was the worst emergency, you can tell things went very smoothly :)
Thanks for the good wishes. He's not made any further improvements in recovery abd lost galf a stone this week so far and today I arrived to find he had been attacked by the drug addict on his ward!! Security had to be called and they were urging Mr D to press charges but he's just in no fit state for that. He couldn't even defend himself as he can't move unaided and gas so many tubes all over him its awful. Every time the nurses left to see to another patient this guy kept going back to Mr D, it was appalling. The staff were so apologetic about it all and said they would move my poor man as soon as they could. I told them I wasn't leaving till he had been moved and they did move him in the end to a ROM of his own. Now he's got a bloodshot, weepy eye to deal with. Horrible day all round and I managed to keep it all together till I got to the car park where I just cried. I hope things improve all round from now on.

Wow Decaff, no-one should be dealing with that whilst trying to recover. With luck, now he's in his own room he will be more able to concentrate on getting better and not watching over his shoulder for druggie ninja attacks. I wish him well.

Good heavens, Decaff! I'm so sorry to hear this - I'm not surprised you cried once you got back to the car. I really hope that now he's got his own room that's put a stop to it. A shame that he's the one who gets isolated, but even the everyday hubbub of a ward can be disquieting, so maybe its good that he's on his own now.

I would have thought that after me having multiple foot and ankle surgeries and a fractured spine all within 4 years, she would have got it a bit more, as we were living on the preps that I had.
Terry, you've been through a rough time too, years and years of it :( controlling bipolar through well-adjusted medication can make things a lot easier. Prepping a shelf stable food cupboard of tinned food is absolutely where people need to build from, that was the first thing I did too.

All the best.

Thanks Arzosar. It has been rough but now i can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I didnt imagine my life almost crumbling by the age of 30. Now its time to look to the future. Id rather have plenty of food stored than keep all my money saved up in a bank.

After a winter of being really busy we have been lifting and using the potatoes and carrots that we grew last summer. The last was lifted today so a lot of peeling and par boiling on the horizon for me lol. Re glazed the greenhouse after the winds of last year - only lost 4 panels. Decided to silicon seal the sheets in as well as use loads of clips and cable tie the sheets to the frame so time will tell if this works.

Good for you!! Keep focused and every small step forward is absolutely a positive step in the right direction. The past can't be changed and its hard not to dwell but think of all the things you have learnt and move on from there and remember that the future is yours to do with as you wish.

terrytaylor84 wrote:Well its been a while since I did anything at all prep related. After splitting up with my girlfriend of 7 years back in August, then spending up until the beginning of March on a matress on my sisters living room floor, she has a one bedroom flat that is more like a rabbit hutch. I now have my own flat (rented) I'm back on it and slowly, very very slowly beginning to stock up on tinned food, rice and pasta. My wage is terrible, not where I thought I would be at 30. Although I have an interview in a few weeks for a prison officers job.

I've just ordered a dehydrator, so I'm gonna have a play with that when it arrives. Ive also applied to go back to university part time to study for a Law Degree. Onwards and upwards. Hopefully it's something that will be a useful tool if things do ever start to go down hill. Also with my Bipolar I find its better to keep my mind active and what better way than to study.

I've had surprisingly good fun with a dehydrator, I've been turning out a pretty good (to my taste) spicy jerky, loads of veg and some fruit. There's another thread about them that's worth reading.

Whatever way you go, whether 'back to school' or work, whatever it might be, don't let it define you, people are people, enjoy being you. I don't want to patronise but it took me longer than I realised to be happy in myself, keeping up with the Jones's really isn't worth it and I was trying too hard the other way, I was an obnoxious prick to 'stand out'. Don't get too bogged down with where you 'should be' when you're 30. Life's a journey, you've got a long way to go yet mate, hopefully loads of good stuff. Chill gangsta.

im currently working full time, im a bit of a workaholic to be fair. The busier i am the better i am. I have never really been one for trying to keep up with other people. Im hoping the degree will also open a few doors in the future for me and help provide a better life my my 2 kids. Ive had my time standing out, kind of sick and tired of being " popular" and standing out. Now its time to focus on me and kind of fade into the back ground slightly. Especially as im now intending to kick my prepping into gear. Im glad im part of a community like this, cos its always much more supportive and accepting, not just in terms of prepping. It makes a huge difference to people like me.
