Weighted Backpack

Post by alwayscross »

Couple months ago I started walking round with a weighted backpack wherever I went, I made it the weight of my BOB. Overtime I built the weight up so it is nearly twice the weight of my BOB, I did about three to four hours a day of walking with it. This helps so if the need for a bug out happens carrying my actual bug out bag will be a breeze, well not a breeze but easier. I decided to post what I've been doing to see if someone else likes the idea, I feel like this will not just help with prepping but general lifestyle.

P.S-Im not responsible for bad backs.

What weight are you actually carrying?

Assuming your body is up to it I would say it's a great way to work your core, build up stamina and also improve your mental strength as well, similar to the Royal Marines yomp on a smaller scale :)

My BOB weighs 12kg which is about 26lb, I carry round a 23kg bag which is about 46lb of the top of my head. It hurt at first but after a while it became easy, it has had a definite benefit. I put my actual BOB on the other day and it felt light as a feather, I really recommend this idea to any prepper.

Way back when I was an apprentice, my old boss fell down an open manhole in the dark ( you would sue someone now!) he dislocated his back, shoulder and both hips. A right mess. When he started to get better he did just what you have done. He walked the dog with a rucksack full of an increasing number of bricks to rebuild strength.

I do regular walks with my bug out bag but have a light weight approach with a bag of just 20lb, when i was training for the army i used water to add weight so that i could dump the weight quickly if needed it also made for a very stable and even load.
