I went straight to the comments as I knew what was coming

I basically think the anti-prepping comments come from lazy fools that like to chuck negatives at anyone that invests time and money into prepping, hell if they agreed with us preppers and our mindset they might have to spend some of their cash on ensuring they can survive a calamity and winge on

My favorite anti-comment came from the twat that just could not resist bringing 'Right Wing' into almost every sentence, I don't think prepping has a right wing/Left wing or center standing as prepping is an entity in and of itself looking at the flux of political ramifications among natural and a multitude of other possible tipping factors.

Yes, it would be good to have a dedicated prepping expo of our own here in the UK.

You've got to admit that the title does have the sub-text "Lets all laugh and poke fun at the weirdos"

Sad fact that people think prepping is only about TEOTWAWKI ...... Until you point out that having any kind of insurance that isn't legally required is a prep :D

Like the Motoped....... Want !!

That's actually looks really cool, but personally wouldn't go as it is stuff I've heard a thousand times before. I agree with Wulfshead about the anti-prepper comments, I will never get anti preppers. "How dare they only prep for themselves and don't buy us loads of gear" is basically what there saying, its pathetic in my opinion. "This is for people who are so afraid of dying they forget to live" was the stupidest comment, prepping is for those who aren't lazy and clueless.

Read the first half dozen or so comments and didn't think it was that bad, plenty 'septics' who were 'sticking up for us'. We're probably all sorts of categories that have some kind of negative connotation, I'm a big football fan, I'm a Landlord, I spent most my adult life in the Forces, there's plenty who have views on these 'stereotypes', I'm not going to get bent out of shape because some randoms want to think badly of me. I've seen plenty on here refer to non-preppers as 'sheeple' and the like. Live and let live and all that.

some of the comments show obvious lack of knowledge about what being prepared means, but that is life. The sneering tone reflects the Mail on lines Editor Piers Morgan, the man America loves to hate shame they didn’t keep him.

anyone who was born in the 1950's will remember their parents always kept full food stores. It was considered normal then. The 'Just in time' Generation have some nasty lessons to learn.

Aye, there are plenty of people out there who have no idea about any kind of prepping, the amount of people i know who have the barest amount of food and the like stored in their house is amazing, when i say "you should keep more in the house" all i get is; why, shop is open all day. But reading the comments, i have to agree non preppers walk around with their eyes closed and probably wont open them until it is too late. Some good comments though, and plenty of them supported prepping, and as one comment said, there are far more preppers than you realise, would be good to have a expo ove herer, but im guessing if we did, there would be no underground shelters or auto loading shotguns on show.

I have to ask, are there American preppers who are more like us?
not that we do not talk about the worst case scenarios, not that we don't admit that the worst scenarios TV hype did draw our attention to taking up the (lets call it a mind set) pastime, yet once you look at it most of us can honestly say, as has been mentioned, that it is indeed more about not being over dependent on the just in time culture, and having sustainable supplies of everyday things, yes this means food stocks and just about anything else which experience proves can run short PDQ should the right workers go on strike, and who doesn't fear aggravated burglary?
Sure many things are not common to all society, yet enough of us have bad enough luck, often enough to know that softening the blow (or potential blows) of hard times by being prepared to a greater degree than the "norm" is sensible, not crazy, not paranoid, and certainly not convinced that "The Walking Dead" will happen any day now and yet the success of the show indicates the extent of the fears of many, not just people who prepare for hard times.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Yes there are Plympton. I have several friends in USA and have visited them. They mostly live in the south east of the country and I was struck by the general 'prepper' attitude. There are some fanatics, but on the whole most are quite conservative. We were discussing this prepping and such and I came to the conclusion the self reliant attitude still abounds in USA due to the population only being a few generations away from the frontier lifesyle when you had to be self sufficient. It was also apparent that the further away (time wise) from their history, more mobile the population becomes and the more urban lifestyle they lead, the less that self reliance is apparent.
Supermarkets over there stock canning equipment, gardening and hunting gear as the norm. It was quite strange popping into Krogers and Walmart for a bit of food shopping, some canning lids, oh and while we're here lets just go and have a look in the hunting section! Well that made me envious! It was better stocked than my local Gun shop! Although we had to cross the county line to get a 6pack :?

I was at the shot show in Vegas a couple of years ago, that was huge. When the Yanks do a show, they DO a show.
