Of course, it's all not for the 'Hunker Bunker', but I did check most of the sell by dates on the packs and tins. Aso vitamin pills. Next month it's lighting and warmth, followed a month later by medical stuff. I have some already, but not enough.
If nothing does go pear shape, it will be useful.
I am looking around the internet for a cheap Cookes stove or something similar that will cook over twigs and scrap wood.

Think water as well mate, even if its just keeping 2Ltr bottle's of water/pop and reusing them.

Thanks for all the tips. |I am following someone's advice ( can't remember who ) who suggests storing pop bottles ( 1/2 litres Coke bottles ] of water in the freezer.
That I will do. Two reasons, [1 ] If the leccy goes of for several hours, it will keep the freezer cold and that it saves leccy because there is less air space.
Thanks

Day off from the day job today and tomorrow (well deserved) so I'm fitting a new water tank outside which I'm undecided whether to fill with drinking water and just use it as a backup or rig it up for rainwater collection. It's 800 litres so it will be immovable once I've got it in place so I need to get it right.

I've also been going minimal with my EDC and I'm working on a small Altoids tin setup for my day to day kit. When I get it completed I'll post up some photos and the contents.

Just curious, I've never seen an Altoid tin, tho have on Utube. What are Altoids and can I get them in the UK? The only thing similar tins I have seen were the old tobacco tins, and they've stopped now. I'm starting to make those simple small heaters using corrugated cardboard, tuna tins and paraffin. Even I can manage those. Simple too.

They are small mints sold in most supermarkets.

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

haha it's always the way, you can still get tobacco tins, they aren't sold with tobacco in any more but you can still get them in poundland, they are normally near the front with the papers and tips etc, which also come in useful as tinder :)

Thanks... I seem to remember them now, usually with an 'interesting leaf' design or a picture of Bob Marley.
Thanks

Purchased 4 Kg of Urid Dall (Urad Dal) which is a kind of lentil that is supposed to be the closest to wheat flour when ground up and used like a flour. Am going to practice increasing my skills in making dosa with it. Its also a prime ingredient in Papadum which i hope to be able to make myself at home on the cheap from scratch.

I have seen a recipe for a Sandwich Loaf that is soda based and uses Urad Dal ( http://www.veganricha.com/2015/02/lenti ... ecipe.html ) which means that if you usually have the other ingredients around and lentils keep for a longtime, then you can have bread reasonably conveniently if you have Urad Dal around.

Each 2 Kg bag was under a fiver and you can make a heck of a lot of pancake batter with that.

Just starting my experiments, will keep you posted.

I am also learning how to make vegan "cheeses" using tapioca starch and agar agar (which is more expensive, but quite fun!)
